The location is far from glamorous (opposite the Birds Eye factory), but The Lighthouse is my family's 'go to' cafe for a 'treat-y' breakfast. It's definitely not the place if you're counting the calories/cholesterol but the fry-ups are amazing. Breakfast is served in a wide array of options from the modest to the ginormous and include child-friendly portions on appropriately-themed plates (my youngest likes the fairy princess!)
As previous reviewers state, this is no 'greasy spoon' - the ingredients are largely locally sourced and beautifully cooked (My crew particularly like the doorstep style bread and toast) The restaurant itself is clean and the service is friendly. Be prepared for a wait at peak times, especially weekends - this place is popular and rightly so.

A proper "greasy spoon" cafe, excellent range of food reasonably priced.
Very clean, free newspapers to read plus tv.
Very nice friendly staff and easy parking nearby.

I have visited several times and on all occasions, it has taken quite a while for the food to arrive (eat in and takeaway), However the food is tasty and reasonably priced. There is also plenty of parking and seating available and the staff have always been friendly.

I agree with other reviewers, we used to use the Diner regularly at the weekends while at work, big hunks of toast, butchers sausages etc, now its not the same, and to be honest a bit pricey for what you get. We now use a little van on a industrial estate where you get a foot long roll filled with decent sausages bacon eggs and mushrooms with a frothy coffee, you stand outside while its all cooked fresh for you no where to sit but hey for around £4.....
