We have just come back from a weekend we were looking forward to, but have come home a bit disappointed.

We stayed at Gunton Hall in June of this year and could not stop singing its praises when we returned home. So looking forward to staying again.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and booked into our garden Lodge Suite which was absolutely fabulous.

Friday evenings meal was very good but the standard seemed to go down hill slightly the following days.
It seemed that the Chefs were at odds with each other and not at all happy.
Our waiter keith though was very good and attentive.
We changed our restaurant table as it was along way from the food. We were told that this table was allotted to our lodge suite due to the price we paid for the break. Could not understand this.

The entertainment on the Saturday night (The Jersey Boys) although absolutely brilliant, was only on for an hour. When we came in June we had two nights of tribute bands which went on a lot longer. (The cost was lower then this break.)There also didn't seem to be much going on as there was in the summer. It seems to me that these Autumn breaks are just a way of getting bums on seats before the Christmas period.

The grounds are fantastic but again not in the Autumn/early Winter.

We are looking to have another weekend at Warner's but will try elsewhere.

Room Tip: Garden Lodges are fantastic

Dear “Nanny 62”

Thank you for the review on Trip Advisor and I am disappointed that whilst you enjoyed your holiday it did not meet your expectations. I am pleased you are considering another Warner Hotel for a weekend break but would love to see you back again at Gunton Hall.

Stayed here with a coach trip. They must have had a good discount as it was out of season. Although we knew the accommodation was in chalets, we didn't know how far they were from the main building. It was a pain having to take your coats with you to breakfast and dinner. This was our first visit to a Warner and had high expectations but we were disappointed with the food.As with a carvery the food is never hot enough.
The chalet was very nice and clean, but as it was November the walls were very cold. The heating was left on all day.
Entertainment was in house...all very hard working. Excellent dancers and singers.

Room Tip: Ask for one not too far away from the main building. There were some lovely new chalets on the site i...

Dear “Magsym”

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your recent stay. I am pleased that you enjoyed the entertainment product.
We have four coastal village properties with the accommodation not linked to the main complex however our remaining nine properties are hotels which might be better suited for your needs. I hope this helps you make the right decision for a future Warner holiday booking.

This is the 7th time we have been here for this weekend, This is the 5th time we have seen the same Blues Brothers Soul Sister show and each time it gets worse, When we first started coming we had adequate rooms, good food and excellent entertainment. Each year they have cut back on the entertainment and this year for the first time the food had less choice and no tea and coffee after the evening meal, you had to pay extra for that. If you go to any of these weekends, go into the Regency Lounge as the singer there was brilliant, he should be on the main stage instead of inhouse singers and band. Sorry to say we will not be going back, we have always been with a group of 100 people but gradually this has dropped and we will be trying somewhere else in the future

Dear “Donna W”

Thank you for the review and I am upset that you did not enjoy your break. I can assure that we have invested more into the entertainment product in 2013 than in previous years so I am surprised that you feel the product has been reduced. I am disappointed that you are considering not returning and I hope you reconsider.

We were a family party from UK and abroad and chose Gunton Hall as being good value for money and with plenty of facilities to suit the varied members tastes.

It was an enjoyable experience spoiled by a few details.

The setting is beautiful with well tended gardens and a lovely lake. The chalets were scattered throughout the site so walking distances were considerable. Luckily the weather held up in spite of the great storm the day prior to our arrival. Three members were delayed by 24 hours because of the damage to transport links in the aftermath of the storm.

Chalets were reasonably well designed but we could have done with lighting over the washbasin and the dressing table mirrors, and the lack of an extractor fan for the bathroom was not acceptable as the lavatory is within five feet of the bed. We were told that it was not fitted because our bathroom had an opening window. I dread to think what it is like in the winter to have to open a window to air the room. We spoke to other family members about this and were told that where they had extractor fans in their chalets, they were inadequate and feeble.

The chalets were beautifully clean, but the duvets had been washed so often they were thin and lumpy. The springs in the mattress were apparent even to a hand brushed across the bottom sheet, so I hope that they are due to be changed soon.

The restaurant was very good and the choice of food excellent. The coffee shop was very pleasant and inexpensive, and the tiny gift shop a delight, with a good range of interesting and inexpensive items. Worth a trip to shop there for small and unusual gifts.

The staff throughout could not be faulted. They were helpful and well mannered from the receptionist to Marie our chalet maid.

There were no laundry facilities whatsoever, not even the address of a launderettte in the information booklet. We had been travelling in UK prior to our visit and had tried to travel as lightly as possible, so were at a disadvantage as we had insufficient clothing with us for our stay. It had never occured to us that a hotel would not provide a laundry service of some sort.

The entertainment was overamplified and above the pain threshold at times. However all appeared to be enthusiastic and lively. Most of our party enjoyed it very much. The pool was excellent and well patronised and we took advantage of the offered coach trip in to Norwich. On the whole, a well thought out package of entertainment and things to do.

Some of our party had to leave at an early hour to catch a plane and were cheerfully provided with a packed breakfast, but shockingly, were told if they wanted bottles of water and crisps they would be charged five pounds. Possibly this may have been due to those two items being from the Bar supplies and therefore normally paid for, and not from the Dining room supplies. So sad to leave with such an impression of mean spiritedness as these were the travellers who had already lost 24 hours of the holiday (and meals) they had paid for.

Would we go again? To Gunton Hall - probably not. To another Warner Hotel? Very likely as the concept is good and apart from our niggles it was a good experience.

Room Tip: Driftwood chalets have views of the lake and are nearest to the main block. Tell reception when you...

booking and directions simple to follow. Reception staff friendly and helpful at all times. Son had own chalet next door which worked well as he could have his early morning swim without disturbing mum and dad. Chalet kept clean and water was piping hot for showers etc. Entertainment was varied and sporting contests were well organised and went off in very friendly fashion. Meal times were well thought out and we were particularly lucky to have an excellent waitress called Sian who explained all options on our first night. Overall it was worth the 250 mile trip to get there. Norwich proved an interesting day out going to the castle and the market. Top tip take the park and ride service into Norwich.

Our first impression of Gunton Hall was not good. Only one car park, and our chalet was the furthest distance possible from it. The chalet itself was adequate, but by no means luxurious. This impression changed when we had our first meal. The service was excellent, the choice good and the food was varied, well presented and tasty. For our four night stay the Entertainments Team worked incredibly hard and had a good mix of dancing, quizzes, bingo, cabaret, to keep everyone happy. The swimming pool was good, though the changing facilities are poor, but overall we had a very happy stay.

We have been mob handed ( 22 persons) from our sailing club for the last three years and based upon what we have experienced our numbers continue to grow. especially as when there is drinks included. Food is average to good with a number of options and the entertainment is good value. Where else can you learn to shoot, fence and bowl all in a three day package at no extra cost .

Room Tip: some have been re-worked and are draught free and very warm
