“Fabulous fifties weekend”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Just got back from our excellent weekend at Gunton Hall. My wife and I are just over sixty and we took my in-laws who are in their eighties, but young at heart. We all took part in many activities organized by Bruce and the girls who were all very pleasant, funny and enthusiastic. Many thanks to them. We now know of a new game called Smite ! In fact everyone employed there were very polite and helpful.
The food and accommodation were excellent and the evening entertainment was superb. It all went far too quickly.
We will definitely come back at some time.

Just returned from weeks holiday at Gunton Hall, first time at a warners and very impressed by it all, a few niggles perhaps but nothing to spoil the holiday. stayed in the old lodge, very nice room very clean as it was every day when we returned to it, housekeeper did good job, could of done with the decoration being updated, disappointed no fridge, or direct access from room to the garden and was a bit dark .Had reserved parking outside our room which was useful. The hotel and grounds are very nice all well kept, food was of very good standard. All staff were always helpful and very cheerfull. Angela on reception, Charlotte in regency bar, Kayleigh our waitress. ruth in housekeeping, the guys outside who helped with the luggage, briiliant. All the entertainments team were also good, put on some good entertainment, crackerjax in house band also good, a special mention for Helen on the entertainments team, what a character she was like a breath of fresh air always jolly never short of anything to say very funny and the most infectious laugh you have ever heard.
Lastly the manager. Quite often during our stay he was seen around the place chatting with guests, at night watching the entertainment, fetching guests drinks, being really hands on so was really nice that he gets involved and doesn't just watch from the side lines.
Well done to all, had a good holiday would definitely return

We've stayed at this Warners before on two occasions but our overall view is that it wasn't as good as some of their other locations. The accommodation was just okay, really needed a deep clean and some degree of renovation.

We did enjoy the evening entertainment but felt that sequence dancing was very low on the Entertainment Manager's agenda despite the fact that when they did sequence, the floor was packed. More time was spent on actually teaching fewer people to line dance.

We thought the entertainment team were very talented. However we were so disappointed that "Dream Lover" was on. We've seen this show four times at various Warners in the last two years and feel we could be in it now!

The food was good but the setting out of the breakfast and dinner buffet needs rehashing to cut down on queuing. Quite shocked to have our soup bowls plonked down on the table without the benefit of a plate to carry them on, just the server's thumb inside the bowl! Wouldn't expect this in the high street cafe, let alone Warners.

Room Tip: Away from the screaming at the Pleasure Wood Hills leisure park.

Dear “mayfair46”

Thank you for your review and I have shared your observations with my departmental heads.

I am pleased that we have another team show called “Piano Legends” which is new to 2014 and help the problem of regular Warner guests seeing the same shows. Your point concerning the soup bowls has now been addressed and will be served on a side plate in the future.

Kind Regards

We've been to Gunton Hall twice before and decided to return as we love Suffolk and Norfolk.
We chose a Premium Suite overlooking the lake and stayed for a week, Monday to Monday. The suite was very well equipped with separate lounge and bedroom, plus a large bathroom with a massive shower which worked very well.
We were pleasantly surprised to discover a fridge in the lounge, ideal for the warm weather we had all week. Complimentary small bottles of red and white wine (replenished mid-way through our stay) plus sparkling and still water and luxurious shower gels.
Table and chairs on a little patio made it a pleasure to sit outside and watch the ducks waddling about.
We had booked the River Boat cruise which was excellent; coach picked us up and took us to Horning, where we had a 2-hour cruise on the Broads with lunch (also excellent, served by friendly girls).
We don't bother with the evening entertainment so can't comment on that. The restaurant staff were helpful and friendly as usual (Connie and James deserve a special mention here) and the food was good, 3 or 4 menu choices for starter and for main course plus a carvery which is always good quality meat and good choices of vegetables. Puddings are OK and there is cheese at no extra cost - a nice change from the hotels we usually use.
Gunton Hall has lovely grounds and there is plenty to do for those who want it. The swimming pool is lovely, large light and airy. The gym is OK, could do with a spinning bike.
It is a good base for visiting lots of lovely places, Southwold, Oulton Broad, Somerleyton House, Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings. Cromer is within driving distance too, and we visited Fellbrigg Hall.
We're not sure if we would return to Gunton Hall but we're pleased that we went this time.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the lake or the putting green - more privacy.

We stayed at Gunton Hall as base to explore the Suffolk coast line. We used the swimming pool each morning and it was very clean and well maintained. Our accommodation was a luxury chalet which was large and well appointed. We have to commend Tracey who made sure everything was well maintained and she went that extra mile to make us feel at home. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. The table staff were efficient and cheerful. I was impressed with Simon, the manager, who made sure he was mixing with guests and ensuring everything was operating smoothly. Gunton Hall is well placed to explore the Suffolk coast line from Great Yarmouth down to Ipswich.

Room Tip: Luxury chalets are excellent value with lopts of space and a patio

This is an adults only resort. It also tends towards the older generation, yes we are in that age bracket. My wife and I took her mother in law who uses a wheelchair there for a break, most of the site is accessible for wheelchairs although there are separation ridges at each door which makes it a bit difficult. We had to have a step to get her in to her room, but we have been told by staff that they are refurbishing the site bit by bit. The meals were very good with a choice, for a small place, although the carvery is down steps and very difficult to get my mother in law down for choices. Also the area to the right of the stage (looking at it) is dark and claustrophobic also it was hot when we were there and it was so hot in there it wasn't possible it stay and watch the show. There is no air conditioning in that area it took a chat to the manager to get a fan in, it helped but something has to be done there. The tables by the windows are great.
The waiters are very friendly, most are young 16 upwards, and although still learning which they are doing fast can't be more helpful and chatty. Even discussing with them how old fashioned faggotts are made, when they were on the menu as they didn't know what they were.
There are activities most of the day, it tended to be the same group of us that participated and it was great fun with a lot of old fashioned banter, the staff loved it and were fantastic. On the sports day even my 86 year old mother in law took part with cheers from other guests.
The bar serves guest bitters as well as the mass produced stuff and malts as well, the double up discount also works on the malts.
The staff make the place due to their friendliness and chattiness. All willing to use the "older" guest experience and knowledge, and the ladies love the good hearted "cheekiness" chat.
I would have given it 5 stars apart from the black hole part of the restaurant were something needs to be done.

Room Tip: Ask for a table away from the right side of the stage, (facing the stage".
