Pontins Pakefield Holiday Park
Reviewed 3 June 2014

We stayed here half term week. We have family that have been here before and decided to join them this year. After reading other reviews we were regretting booking and dreading it. How ever once we got Into our room it seemed ok not the best iv stayed in but not the worse, for the price we paid the food was acceptable. The evening entertainment was great kids had a whale of a time. How ever the swimming pool needs a good clean.(this could just be my opinion) the crazy golf needs a bit of tlc we list a few balls here due to them falling down holes in the pipes. My son was disappointed to find we couldn't use the pitch and putt as the grass hadn't been cut this was the same with what looked like football pitches and we found that there wasn't really a lot to do in the day for the kids. (It did however rain all week if the weather was better the kids would of loved using the park and trampolines this not pontins fault) dinner was crazy in our opinion they needed to start earlier (5:30 was to Late for our 2 yr old)and stay open for more than 2 hours this might of helped the mad rush. We were in a club apartment which meant we would have beds made up and towels in room we still hadn't received these when we left and one of our beds never got bedding even though we paid extra £30 a head for this service just like as club we were meant to get half price leisure activities between 10-12 but there was no activities running. When we complained we were told they were short staffed and that if we came back in august everything would be running and there would be more entertainment.Which takes the biscuit really as we paid the same amount as we would if we went in August. I would not suggest paying the extra to upgrade to club as there is no difference really save yourself the money and go basic. As part of club your meant to get allocated parking when we got there to park someone else had parked in it. To be fair re man on the gate did warm us that no.10 was our space but he couldn't guarantee that no one else had parked there. So it really wasn't worth the extra we paid to go club. Over all though for the price you pay it's not bad. But come on pontins if there meant to bed beds made up do it we paid for it. If there meant to be towels provide them. Take care I your park and it will be lovely cutting the grass isn't an awful job.

The problems within your room should have been done at once, I would suggest that if you do return and encounter any such problems please speak to the duty manager, he would have taken action to get the points rectified at once, I would say that this season we have come on in leaps and bounds, upgrading both facilities and accommodation, and continue with this programme till completed, our aim is to provide family holidays at value for money prices, this does not however mean at the expense of a bad service, we have the procedures in place to rectify and manage any problems as they arrive.
As stated above I do hope you will consider a return visit to our park.

The good.... Not a bad set up with half board and facilities in your room such as a fridge, microwave and toaster plus Morrisons across the road everything was really easy. Food was fine and my six year old boy loved it with jelly and ice cream at every meal. The Bluecoats were fab and worked really hard, particularly well done were the arts and crafts, pirates treasure hunt and the musical theatre class. Children's cabarets were good and as adults we loved the Shane Richie Jnr band. My kids were over the moon to win the talent show and a free holiday, medals and £10 to spend in the shop. The beach was lovely, skull island good fun and the playground great. Captain Crocs lunch was fun and the was more to do on the programme than in recent years, as it rained we appreciated this. We are ex Bluecoats and it took us back in time, a nice traditional feel.

The bad..... The football session had 50 kids ages 5 upwards playing against each other and inevitably many went away crying and injured. More staff, age groups and some sort of structure to the session would help. Also my chalet smelled so bad we invested in fabreze, bleach and smelly candles and it became more bearable

The ugly.... We like tradition but some things are best kept in the past, namely a beauty contest, for age 8 onwards. To rank children and adolescent girls in range of physical appearance be it genetics, grooming or lifestyle choices ( none of which these girls are really in control of) is what playground bullies do on a daily basis and we should not reinforce this. I obviously did not go so don't know winners were selected, but to have adult judges, maybe even men judging girls on attractiveness is wrong on very many levels. Come on Pontins, you are better than this. Fine if adults want to do this and we had a chuckle that your glamorous granny contest was for 18 year olds plus ( Benifit Street stuff).

We had a great week and we're sad to leave, as ex blues we are loyal Pontins customers and get the feeling Pontins is on the up again which is great !!! Thankyou to all the staff who worked hard to make sure the stay was so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Chalet 100 had a great location

To receive a four star rating from you only shows us we are doing a number of things right, by receiving both good and constructive criticism from guests allows us to constantly review the way we operate, and correct where necessary to improve things for the betterment of all. I have passed on all your comments to the managers involved for their action; I have also disseminated all your kind comments to individual staff members. I have noted your points on the beauty and football contests, and will talk these issues over with the entertainments manager today.

Me and my family came here to pontins pakefield for the day (29/05/14) -first impressions as we entered the park were the overgrown field on the right hand side with the football goals! Could really do with a tidy up and cut of grass this would look so much more inviting. The man on the gate was friendly and the price to get in was good value. First of all we went for a wonder round the park to get our bearings, and me and my husband said that a coat of paint would really make a difference especially the restaurant with the ship ! The ballroom was nice and big but could do with a makeover. Very 1970's in some areas of it. The toilets were poor we thought, quite dirty in places, especially the floors. The toilets were particularly poor at the croc adventure land ! Very dirty and not been cleaned for sometime. The cafe attached to the amusements seemed very not organised at all. Hardly any staff, dirty tables and messy. The swimming pool needs urgent attention, the changing rooms were dirty, and smelt. Needs regular cleaning throughout the day. The pool floor seemed dirty..... The slide was closed as there were not enough lifeguards.more changing areas are required...... Not enough privacy. The kids loved the park outside near the restaurant, this was lovely. The queen vic pub was good too. Service was good. The crazy golf could do with a makeover, the hire station was good ! Staff were nice. Overall these are only good issues as the park is good, just the above problems are minor and could make such a difference. Louise Irvine-from Norwich.

I would like to thank you for the time spent in letting us know the areas you feel we need to improve on, since being taken over by Britannia hotels many thousands of pounds have been invested to improve both facilities and accommodation, this is on-going and will continue till all the upgrading work is complete, things improve daily as our reviews on trip advisor will verify, please visit us again in the very near future, and see the improvements we are making.

My 10 year old grandson and I stayed here Bank Holiday weekend, 23-26 May, 2014 for 3 nights.
I hadn't been here for over 20 years and it was all a very pleasant surprise. Chalet 306 was lovely, microwave, toaster and cutlery. Bath and shower. It was near entertainment, next to swimming pool and not far from the restaurant. The food was very acceptable to my grandson. Starters for Dinner is only a choice of Salads or Soup, but considering what we paid, it was very good value. The swimming pool is fantastic, very big, and at deepest only 1.4 metres, my grandson enjoyed the big slide. We bought the bed linen. 2 x £5, but at least we now have them to take back next time, as my grandson is constantly asking when can we go back. The gardens are lovely, all the grounds well cared for, plenty of room for the childrens organised football, rounders, etc. The tots playgrounds for younger children looked amazing too. The enthusiastic Bluecoats work very hard all day to keep everyone entertained and occupied.

I would like to thank you for your five star review, we feel that we are going in the right direction when we receive this type of report, as stated the bluecoats have really excelled themselves this season, both in approach and with their shows, A few weeks back they received a standing ovation for the strictly musical presentation. It is nice your grandson is looking forward to returning, these are child hood memories that should be savoured, we look forward to you returning in the future.

We stayed at Pontins a few weeks back for a 'back to reality' themed weekend. The park was lovely and quiet. The chalets were basic but adequate for our needs. Extremely clean and warm. As someone else previously mentioned the curtains were a little ill fitting, so not only did the sun wake us up at 5am, people can see in. Another problem for us was the positioning of the plugs, there was no plugs on the wall near the bed so we were unable to plug in our laptop or charge our phones without them being on the other side of the room. The beds were comfy and we bought our own bedding. The bathroom was spotless although the shower was rather annoying as it was like the ones you get in a swimming pool changing rooms where it goes off after a minute and you had to keep pressing the button.
The food was ok, there was always something i would eat on offer, even if it was fish fingers, chips and beans and the organisation of the self service runs smoothly. The only problem was the times of meals as 5-6pm for dinner is a bit early for me and my boyfriend. However there is a little cafe offering a selection of meals until late. The price of everything seemed reasonable eg the shop and drinks and the staff are extremely friendly and polite.
The park is fantastic distance to beaches esp Great Yarmouth which has a great Pier and gorgeous beach, and theres plenty of activities around the area. We had a brilliant break. All the little complaints didnt affect our holiday, just things that could do with improving. The only thing that let this holiday down was that we booked an adult only holiday so made the heartbreaking decision to leave our 4 month son at home, only to see more than 10 kids at the park which was really annoying. Other than that will definitely be returning :-)

Had a great second short break at pontins pakefield. Accomodation was good with a well kept camp. Staff was great. Food was great but times of eating was very short of one hr at breakfast and tea so didnt give any flexability to your days planning.Possibly a little like school dinner times but Will go back again. Thanks to all staff

Room Tip: Take your own bedding as buying theirs possible wasnt best value

Needed somewhere to stay when visiting my Son in Lowestoft, usually stay in a B + B but this time decided to give Pontin's a try.
Well, what a great find. The accommodation was clean and appeared to be newly refurbished, staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing considering what I paid for the three night weekend. HOW do they do it for £ 69 per person per weekend???????? The food was plentiful, lots of choice and in the main hot, you could not want for a better breakfast !
Entertainment was good and bar prices very good.
Will definitely be back.........................................................................
