“Our wedding nov 2013”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

We had our wedding at the Carlton manor, and we had the best day! This was all thanks to the fantastic staff, and attention to detail.

I stayed the night before with my daughter and we were instantly greeted by Jo on first names, we were made to feel welcome and reassured that they could help with any issue.

We dined at the hotel that night and the food and service were both fantastic.

In the morning breakfast was served and we were joined by a friend the gentleman who served us again was on first name terms with us and was genuinely interested in the wedding, joining in the excitement.

Jon the manager arranged all the flowers for us and made me feel so at ease and relaxed about the day.

Lou the wedding planner ..... Well what can I say, her skills are fabulous and she is such a lovely person, making your day feel truly special. Very professional yet kind and considerate.

Our ceremony was small intimate and special, as was the meal that followed. We have had many compliments on the menu, taste and presentation. Nothing was too much trouble.

In the evening ( a larger event) the bar staff were amazing friendly and kept efficient pace with the custom.

If you are looking for a personal wedding, making your day the best it could possibly be..... Look no further !

Before we left the next morning we were made coffee and biscuits with our family in front of the fire , this was not requested by us but just done as a finishing touch.

We were so lucky to have our special day here and I hope this helps persuade other couples to as well.

My grandparents recently held their 60th Diamond wedding anniversary par y here. The hotel manager could not have been more helpful - checking every aspect of the event with us in detail and being there on the evening to check that everything was running smoothly. The food was lovely and the room we used was perfect for the occasion. Excellent.

The hotel is nicely presented with a welcoming reception and attractive lounge area. Walking into the room it looked like a reasonable place to stay. The bedroom was clean and modern, the bathroom more functional than luxurious perhaps.

All of this means absolutely nothing if the room is freezing and unusable. We asked the lady who showed us to the room why it was so cold? "Ah the heating only comes on at 5.30pm." she cheerfully replied at 3pm and around 6 degrees. "So why did you say the room was available from 2pm if it's like the Artic?" we enquired. We were assured the heating would be put on immediately.

Speaking to the manager a frozen hour later with the in-room radiator remaining untroubled, he protested he had only just arrived. So I assume that food can only be cooked when he's on the premises, drinks must remain un-poured and heating is definitely banned until he arrives. The common areas were piping hot which added to the perversity as you're paying for the room. Perhaps you're expected to sleep in the bar?

Lacking the pre-requisite 4 season sleeping bag and paraffin heater we decided not to stay. The impotent and unapologetic excuses from the manger offered no hope that the hotel experience would get any better.

Avoidance advised.

Lovely large modern bedroom and bathroom. Excellent modern British style food with lots of fish dishes and vegetarian options that are not stodge fests. Helpful staff. A really pleasant surprise. Great for a weekend break.

My husband and I stay here for a week as we both needed a relaxing holiday. It was just what we hoped for. Jo, the receptionist was fab, very friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice and the jacuzzi bath, a real treat. The only issue with the room was that the internet connection was intermittent, but as we had come on holiday to get away from work it actually helped! We had breakfast twice, each having a cooked and a continental, they were a little pricey for what we got. We ate in the bar twice and the food was lovely, the service was excellent and the ambiance was great. We visited castles in Orford, Bungay and Framlingham. Also Beccles, which was a charming little market town and we ate in the Wine Vaults - we recommend it. While my husband played golf at the Beccles Common course, I had a massage and a facial at Rosie's Salon, then had my hair cut at the walk-in salon. On our last night we had a bottle of Prosecco and delicious sandwiches delivered to our room - just bliss. Everything was perfect

Room Tip: if you need internet, then make sure you book a room in the actual house.

Have just returned from The Carlton Manor, having travelled up for a wedding, with a child. We booked online and it looks like we were very lucky to have a Family/Wedding room at half the price that it was worth! The fresh decoration was of fantastic taste. The 2 x rooms within the the suite had everything that we could of wished for.. 2 Wall mounted TVs, Walk in shower, wifi etc. (the usual, but all up to date) We sank into the beds and straight into dreamland. Jo, was very help at reception and had a car ready for us, to attend our function on time. This mornings breakfast was great, although, a little pricey, we felt we had a bargain in the first place.. So hey! Walking round the hotel gave us a better insight into the premises and you cannot help but feel very welcome. If you want comfort, quality and to feel relaxed, the Carlton has it all. Next time, we will stay a little longer!

we stayed here for 3 nights to attend a family funeral in the area. All I can say is I am baffled by some of the negative reviews. Had originally planned to stay 2 nights but extended it to 3. Room was perfect for a family. Quite large with modern bathroom and fluffy towels. Bed was huge and very comfortable. tea and coffee making facilities as you'd expect. As for the staff, I have nothing but praise for them. From the moment we arrived they were very welcoming and friendly in every way and did everything to help. The atmosphere of the whole place is warm and relaxing but not stuffy. We felt very comfortable having our 5 year old son with us. They catered for 12 of us one evening in the bar area at short notice. The food was of a good standard. We didn't have to wait too long and the food was delicious. I like good quality food and this was spot on. On our last evening we dined here again with our son and I didn't want him to have the standard kids meal and they were more than happy to cook him something off menu and he had a lovely piece of fish with fresh veg. Prices were very reasonable too. Nothing was too much trouble. I could've stayed in the bar /bistro all night! If I had to say anything negative it would be the breakfast prices. Quite expensive so we didn't eat it here unfortunately so can't comment on its quality. I would definitely recommend staying here and would love to come back if we are in the area again
