“Best value for money no complaints”
Reviewed 27 December 2012

We booked last minute and had a 2 night stay in the lodge. It was fantastic, breakfast included in the price. En suite bathroom, and a large luxurious room. The staff were brilliant and attentive.

The only down side was the 'free' Internet. We were downstairs and still got no signal. That said it was still good value for money at such short notice.

Firstly we got a good deal on the room rate and it was a Sunday in December but despite liking the design and effort made with the decor the hotel is scruffy. Just when you try to look past something you see something else. Come on wine hotel owners get a grip on it!

When we arrived there was only one person covering the reception, bar and restaurant, it took 20 minutes to check in as he was stretched, very apologetic though. Our room #8 was small but appeared ok , tea and coffee etc, bathroom was well appointed and designed.......the bed was not set right against the wall as the base was up against an electrical fitting, before we pushed the mattress to the head board could see loads of muck and fluff down there. The bed base had a sheet of ply trimmed over it and when you sat on the mattress it went down to the ply board! Come on, one thing you have to do is provide a decent mattress for your guests to sleep on. This was so, so poor.

The headboard had a ridge a few inches over the pillows and this was thick dust, the duvet was very thin and needed a blanket, when we arrived the room was stone cold. Then as we lied in bed all around the ceiling were long well established cobwebs, the room was simply not clean and the paintwork very scruffy. Finally in this room you are over a fan that comes on every 15 minutes and is annoying.

In the end the reduced rate we got was expensive and if we had paid the full price we would have left. There is a folder in the room eulogising the owners service and comfort beliefs......well you need to visit sometime and look around, I could go on and on, one of the poorest nights stays I have ever had anywhere in the world.

Room Tip: Pick somewhere else

very nice 1st impressions followed by clean and spacious rooms. Excellently priced and equipped with a nice bar with good food again well priced! only 7 quid more than a travelodge room, and a thousand times better. and free wifi! simply no choice in the future!

Nice and simple, what you would need for a break or business in such a small beach town. Located minutes walk from cinema, restaurants, shops etc.

The beach is directly in front of the hotel.

On Friday and Saturday nights the noise from the nightclub across the street can be loud, so ask for a room round the back of the building if you stay during the weekend and don't plan to be out yourself.

Pub-style breakfast included which is okay. Very basic but good value for what it is - would recommend.

Booked the Winelodge Hotel for a last minute Saturday night stay.
Rooms are great value for what is advertised as a 3 star hotel - rooms have been renovated to a high spec for that rating and whilst compact, included all the basics incl. tv, toiletries, bar fridge in room.
Staff were fantastic - really helpful and friendly.
Great breakfast included in the price of the room and all the mornings papers were available to read over our meal.
Recommend for a great value short stay.

Room Tip: Beware that rooms do face the nightclub across the road, but considering it was a Saturday night, we...

Recently stayed here for a short break. £110 for two nights including a Saturday was good value. The rooms are clean and basic, there are tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the shower was very good, Although the mattress was quite thin the bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast choice was reasonable and there was plenty of it, the price only includes one drink though.Despite this we had more than one drink each on the Saturday morning and were not charged for them, obviously depends on the staff. The meals in the restaurant are cheap and basic but totally acceptable if you are not looking for anything special. Only downside to the stay was the noise from the nightclub across the road early hours of Sunday morning at kicking out time. I guess if you are not in one of the rooms overlooking the road this wouldn't be an issue

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are susceptible to noise from the nightclub across the road on weeke...

Me and my partner stayed at the weekend, booked last minute. Was very good value for money, as the breakfast was included too! The rooms were not massive but not too small. Everything was neat and tidy. For a last minute night way we couldnt complain. The evening meal was ok, nothing magical but was nice. Would go back again!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 4, at the front of the hotel wasnt too noisy!
