Was frankly dreading staying at this hotel after reading the majority of reviews - however, just goes to show that you can't just go on what others say all the time & have to see for yourself. Decent size ground floor room, large shower (just a shame hot water not reliable), comfortable bed & quiet! Nothing particularly outstanding about the accommodation but certainly our room was nothing like the description from some of the reviews. Perhaps we struck lucky.
Breakfast really good, could order any combo on the menu & bacon in particular was excellent quality. The lady who served us on both days was very friendly & cheery, nothing a problem, quick courteous service. Reception staff also happy to order us taxis at short notice.
For the rate we paid (£65 a night) - very good value, especially considering it was half term in a seafront(ish) location. Give it a try.

Room Tip: Room 10 large with a seating area, large TV &generous ensuite bathroom.

Just to clarify, this is a review about the Winelodge Hotel apartments, also on Victoria Terrace but a bit further up from the hotel.

The location was perfect, opposite the pier and there was lots of free parking outside on the road, as well in a courtyard round the back and also at the hotel reception up the road.

The apartment itself was very large with two large double rooms, a lounge and open plan kitchen, along with TV, table and chairs, cooker, cutlery etc.

The lounge and bedroom had wonderful views straight to the seafront.

Some of the kitchen items were a little unclean, it looked like they had been put back in the cupboard by the previous guests who hadn't washed them. Sadly the cleaner hadn't checked them either.

But this didn't detract from the overall experience which was very good and excellent value for money (check laterooms.com for a deal).

Also try out the cafe on the seafront; come out of the apartment and turn right for about 200 yards and it's overlooking the prom - excellent homemade food!

Room Tip: Go for the apartments, NOT the hotel rooms!

We have just returned from this hotel and I have to admit we were a bit scared after reading other reviews. However the hotel really isn't that bad. The room was pretty standard and the worst thing I could find about it was no light working I'm the shower and a bit of dust on the sides. The room was certainly not grimy like other people have stated but perhaps we just got lucky. Noise wise this is one of the quietest hotels I have ever stayed in and the nightclub opposite has shut down so no fear of late night party goers!! Breakfast was really good and the young girls working were really friendly and helpful. For the price we paid we really couldn't complain at all.

Stained carpets, bathroom covered in mould. Noise from nightclub made sleep impossible. No curtains in bedrooms, only thin blinds which flooded the room with light at 5am. One set of towels for two bedroom 'suite'. Ditto tea/coffee.
The barman who checked us in was so rude, obnoxious and obstructive that one could be forgiven for thinking he was part of an elaborate hoax. Had it not been a business booking, we would have happily gone elsewhere at this juncture.
The notion that the above is billed as "luxury accommodation" is both ludicrous and laughable.
N.B. Breakfast is NOT included in price.
Avoid at all costs!

Room Tip: Pick another hotel!

Stayed for one night. Place was run down and needed investment. Room was dirty and dusty, hairs in abundance.Matchbox size TV. Clean sheets although mattress and frame heavily stained.
Shower ok but fittings grubby and mirror rusting. Pillows flat as pancakes. Was short of bath towel, toilet roll and could not get extra pillow. Staff polite and helpful within their restraints of what they could do. Was dreading breakfast but surprisingly was good apart from value sausages. Only paid £50 for the room so I would say almost value for that amount. Not suitable for families or couples on holiday. Caters more for contractors and service engineers wanting to save a bit on expenses.Like previous correspondent doubt be fooled by website. It does not do what it says on the tin.

I booked this hotel for 2 nights in April 2014 on laterooms.com. The photos looked lovely and the price was good as it was a last minute trip.

The condition of the hotel is nothing like the photos on the website.

The room was dirty and there were stains on the carpet and floors. The cutlery and crockery were also put away dirty and there were no cloths of tea towels to clean these items. I understand that this is self catering, but the room had been serviced, so would have expected that the basics had been cleaned before they had been put away and the room released for occupation.

The pillows on the bed were flat. I tried on several occasions on the Saturday afternoon and evening to address this with the staff having had little sleep on the Friday night.

The reception was never manned and guests were always directed to the bar for assistance.

The member of staff behind the Bar, who was also in charge of the restaurant and the hotel, could not assist as he stated that this was his first shift and could not leave the Bar. He asked me to return to speak to the next shift after 5:30pm.

I did this and was told that they had no extra pillows for guests. The woman behind the Bar was totally disinterested in my issues and said that she was not really involved with the hotel and had not ever been over to that area so could not comment.

Although I accepted that I would be using a shared bathroom, I would have expected a level of cleanliness at least.

The condition of the bedroom was poor with damage to the windows and mould. The windows were also single glazed and the blinds were damaged.

I did not stay in my room on my second night as I had been unable to resolve the issues and due to the lack of service.

I have tried to resolve these issues through laterooms.com for they state that the Hotel has not responded to their request for information relating to this issue. laterooms.com have now said that I should seek advice thorough a Solicitor and deal with the Hotel direct.

When we arrived the man in reception had no idea about parking in the area.
We then had to wait until he finished on the phone and then served in the bar before he checked us in.

As we went into our room- it all became clear how dirty it all was. The door frames were dirty with drink or sick spills. Dirty finger prints on the doors. Bed had hairs on it. Around the window has mould.
The bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever. It slopped down and the pillows were paper thin! The tea cups were still dirty, so didn't dare drink from it.

All night we had people shouting and music on loud.

Breakfast was terrible. Tasted like value rubbish.

All in all a horrible place to stay and not clean at all, they charge to much for this!
