“Basic but confortable”

Stayed at the Cedars as a family group due to a wedding (not at the hotel). The hotel is set at the end of a residential road and has ample parking. The room my wife and I was quite large with an en suite bath with over bath shower. There is also a small bar area and an onsite restaurant but this is only open in the evenings. Free WiFi throughout the hotel is available but I did have problems connecting in my room but to be honest I have this problem in many hotels! The hotel staff were attentive and professional. One plus for steam train buffs is that directly behind the hotel runs the Great Central Railway which operates various steam trains every weekend, Loughborough Central station and museum is only a couple minutes’ drive away. This is squeaky floor board hotel, literally - I don’t mean that in a negative way but the hotel could do with a bit of a makeover, saying that the price we paid was excellent and fantastic value for money.

Enjoyed a nice stay at the Cedars Hotel, Loughborough for a friends wedding.

Room standard fine, breakfast very good and quite reasonably priced overall. The place could do with a tidy up from the outside but apart from that it our stay was fine.

I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone!
Small room... outdated decor and furniture... So noisy it kept me awake all night (felt like someone was going to crash through the ceiling!) Poor wifi signal... Very basic facilities... No still water available! Just dreadful.

This is the first time I have ever felt strongly enough to write a review on a hotel room. My comments are in relation to the so called family room (23) so I cannot comment on the other rooms offered by the hotel. The room was very basically furnished and was freezing cold on our arrival. Initially the heating failed to work but in fairness this was sorted fairly quickly by staff after we contacted them. The décor was very dated and shabby and has not seen a paint brush for many a year. The room was long and narrow, consisted of a double bed beside a single bed. The quilts on both were wafer thin as were the pillows, neither of which had any covers. There were two additional pillows in the wardrobe both of which had the previous occupants hair still on them. The beds were very uncomfortable and made an awful lot of noise when you moved, clearly the mattress was very old and in desperate need of replacement. The bathroom had no heating so was subsequently cold however on the plus side the water was hot. There were no bedside tables, the bedside light for the double bed was about two feet away and the TV in the room was in between both beds situated next to your head so to watch it you had to lay where your feet would be.
When finally settling down under the wafer thin mattress (In the early hours of the morning) we were treated the one of occupants of the next room who was clearly drunk banging on his door and swearing at whoever was inside to let him in. Not pleasant for my wife and i however my 14 year old daughter was very scared by the commotion. In addition to this (some two hours later) the occupant of the room above decided to make a 30 minute phone call, all of which was clearly audible in our room. All in all the room was a throwback to the eighties (which was when it was probably last refurbished) and I could not wait to leave. I would definitely not recommend and would never go back.

Room Tip: Avoid room 23

This Hotel has very friendly and helpful staff, the restaurant offered good meals cooked to perfection and it was reasonably priced. The room was a tidy double size although it could do with an update on the decorating. Ideal for a short break and near to local amenities.

Room Tip: We were in room 1 so we were situated above the bar area, this could prove a little noisy during the...

The hotel is hidden down a quiet residential street, which was quite surprising, and when we walked in we weren't quite sure what to expect. It is very 'country inn' looking, with worn carpets and leather sofas and chairs, but a nice characteristic feel. We checked in and got to our room (number 17) and we were pleasantly surprised. It was very clean and tidy, the bathroom was spotless and then bed was comfortable. We were slightly worried when we spotted a trainline right outside our window, but it turned out that it is hardly used as no trains went past until a reasonable hour on the sunday morning, and even then it was an old style steam train so it wasn't very loud. We paid £40 for one night stay room only and it was very good value for money, I would recommend this as a cheap, clean and cheerful accommodation for anyone wanting some quite accommodation near Loughborough.

Room Tip: Our room was right at the back of the hotel but it was out of the way and extremely quiet - room 17!

I visited family in Loughborough with other family members who needed somewhere that was reasonably priced near to town. This hotel certainly fitted the bill. Just off the main road in a quiet cul-de-sac, just outside of the town which was minutes away by car. The hotel and rooms were clean but quite dated in some areas and rooms had their own little idiosyncrasies - for example, my daughter's room didn't have anywhere on the wall for the shower attachment to be placed while she showered. In my room there was a cracked cistern and cigarette burns in the acrylic bath. BUT PLEASE NOTE what we ALSO got at this hotel. VERY friendly staff who were incredibly helpful. A hotel that was conveniently situated and EXTREMELY reasonably priced. A very good breakfast for £7.50. The possibility of eating dinner in the restaurant - the menu looked good though we were out with family so didn't stay to dinner. The rooms were warm and cosy and I would have given an EXCELLENT if the décor had been more up to date. OVERALL, a very good choice for a short stay, especially as the staff were SO LOVELY.
