Didn't quite believe the review list for this Inn, seemed too good to be true, may they have a large extended family or the entire village have shares ..........but no.
It really was all a pleasure, from Mark's banter when booking , the welcome, which was personal despite being busy with diners .
My room ,number 4 ,was clean, fresh and very comfortable.Considering this is a refreshed "old Inn", it is really tasteful and feels cosy and comforting.

Morag cooked up a storm, my plates were fresh, tasty and delicious and I want more ! She should be on Masterchef, next series !

This has gone top in my list of places to stay in Dumfrieshire and I am already planning a return visit.
If only I could persuade them to take dogs (even in just one room) then my wife and our retriever could spend weekends here...........heaven.

Chuffed you had such a good stay. Will have another think re our 'dogs' policy however we'd need to have a bedroom specifically set aside for this and we're just not big enough. We hope to see you again.

booked a one night stay at the Hightae Inn as a stopover on the way to Crianlarich. so glad we did. arrived at 5pm which we were informed was the earliest we could check in. Mark the owner was there to greet us and made us feel very welcome. showed us to our room, number 1, which was lovely. large, comfy bed. beautifully decorated and everything we needed. only bad thing was we had only booked for one night!!! booked a table in the restaurant for our evening meal. food was absolutely delicious, all cooked fresh to order so might have more of a wait than some places where the food is just reheated in a microwave but it is well worth the wait. beautifully presented too. had a lovely sitting room available for guests to use instead of just sitting in your bedroom, pinching some decorating ideas for at home when i redecorate at home, it was so homely & snug. asked what time we would like our breakfast as we were on our way to bed this too was freshly cooked to order. delicious too. my only regret is only having the chance to stay here for one night but will definitely stay here again and will definitely recommend it to friends & family. thankyou Morag & Mark for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: we stayed in room one which was on the ground floor but heard no noise at all.

Stayed for 1 night at the Hightae Inn on our return home from Ireland, we chose it after reading other reviews on Trip Advisor and how glad we were. Travelling by motorbike we arrived somewhat dripping wet, despite this Mark made us feel very welcome and assisted us with drying our wet gear. Our bedroom was cosy warm with an enormous comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities with fresh milk, TV, Hairdryer etc. the evening meal was superb, Morag is an excellent cook. Mark stocks a variety of blended and malt whisky and unusual gins. We enjoyed his knowledge of both and sampled his recommendations which were definitely to our liking, he also stocks exclusively a beer made in Glasgow which my hubby really enjoyed. Breakfast was also superb, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, who could want more. Staying here was a lovely end to our holiday and we will definitely return.

We were travelling to the Isle of Mull from South Hampshire and chose The Hightae Inn after checking on Tripadvisor as it seemed to be located ideally as a stop on the A74. We were not disappointed. Mark and Morag made us very welcome. The room was excellent, clean and very comfortable. The bar and restaurant welcoming and the food excellent. Normally we would fly to Edinburgh or Glasgow and hire a car but having experienced staying at this Inn we will have to think hard in future as it was such a good choice. Sadly on our return journey we chose to drive a further 100 miles to get nearer home and therefore did not stay at the Hightae Inn. What a mistake, but you learn by your mistakes.

Once again many thanks.

Room Tip: Could not fault our room so I would suggest just take it as it comes.

What can I say that hasn't already been said before. The Hightae Inn was fantastic. Mark & Morag were fantastic hosts. The room was lovely and comfortable . The food was delicious. I had the warm blackpudding and Beetroot salad followed by the slow cooked pork. And also managed to fit in pud of lemon posset. All cooked by Morag. Yum yum. We only stayed 1 night but would have loved to have stayed longer. Just can't recommend this Inn enough. We chose to stay here because of all the good reviews and will be spreading the word to friends, family and any one else who will listen!!

Please ,please, please if you are looking for a very "chilled" place to stay, chose The Hightae Inn. You won't regret it.

My wife and I travel a lot and we've stayed in lots of places all over the world. The Hightae Inn is the best overnight stay we've ever had. The room was quiet (even with the window open at night) and we woke to blackbirds and chickens. The bed was wonderfully comfortable - a great night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was fantastic - the black pudding and beetroot starter was lovely, the slow roasted pork was beautiful and the ribeye steak was perfectly cooked. Kim's coulis/sorbet was - I am reliably informed - 'great'. The local beer was very tasty, I got introduced to a whisky I'd never heard of (did I mention the wonderful selection of whiskies behind the bar?) and the conversation in the restaurant ranged across politics, history and Scottish pop music (well, the Blue Nile). Thank you so much. Staying at Hightae was a very welcome break in our journey to Aviemore. What a great place you have. To anyone thinking of staying here - do. If you are considering staying on the motorway (as we were thinking)...don't. Stay here. You won't regret it.

Best Overnight Stay Ever ? Surely not. Many thanks for posting your review - sitting having a wee cup of coffee and genuinely touched by your kind words. Hope the bird watching went well in Aviemore and that the American Coot made an appearance. Kind regards, Morag & Mark Cuthbertson, The Hightae Inn.

Mark & Morag welcomed us back for the fifth time in the last couple of years, onwards to Scotland. we have stayed in lots of borders inns & pubs, but none as friendly, warm, comfortable and jolly as the Hightae Inn. Mark is a great host and Morag's dinners deserve a special rating for first class home cooking.

Room Tip: All very comfortable and warm
