“Nice location, nice people!”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

My wife and I both felt that maybe there were not enough members of staff on during our stay this week - in fact at one point I think there was only one person looking after reception and the bar etc.
This is probably because it's now getting to the winter season.
Having said that the staff were very good, very friendly and helpful.
In addition, as we were the only people in on Sunday night the restaurant wasn't open so the hotel paid for a taxi to take us into Lockerbie - now that's great service and we really appreciated it.

The location of the hotel itself is very good, close to the motorway but this can't be seen or heard.

Rooms were clean and spacious - which reminds me, back to the staff - on arrival the nice lady who comes from near Stranraer (sorry didn't get your name!) couldn't do enough for us.

Room Tip: A garden room would be good to get in summer

A good Borders welcome from the staff. Our dog was very well catered for. There was no lunch menu at this time as the kitchens were being refurbished though the evening meal was excellent and served promptly. The dining staff were very good Although we are not disabled we felt this would be an excellent hotel for anyone with mobility issues as all the rooms were on the ground floor

My husband and I stayed one night for our wedding anniversary in mid September. Overall we had a lovely stay and I was impressed with the hotel's level of service and the quality of the food, we ate dinner, which was of a very high standard and the staff willingly changed the menu to suit a fellow customer's wishes who wanted more standard pub fare. I had fresh fish that was perfectly cooked and my husband enjoyed his steak and he's hard to please as he's a chef. The room was spacious with a sitting area and a gorgeous sky light so we could see the stars that night, as there was little cloud. Plus there was a terrace and a view to open fields at the rear of the hotel. The toiletries provided were really nice, and it was a lovely power shower but the grout on the bath was coming away with the waters power and I created a swimming pool on the floor due to the shape of the bath!
There are a few niggles however, the room required a more thorough high level and general dusting including the bedside lamps, the sofa bed and behind the t.v, the wardrobe door was broken and did not shut. The walls were a little scruffed in places, a re-paint in low season would help. Also the bathroom had a frosted door that opened right into the main sleeping area and you could see in while others were using the facilities! Some people might like that but I don't need to see my husband on the toilet, when I'm lying in bed! Also the cooked breakfast was buffet style and not of the same quality as the evening meal, also staff did not re-fill the trays and by the end of service they were getting cold as the lights had burnt out. However the continental selection was good and the coffee lovely.
I reported the problems with the room to reception and they offered us an alternative room, however when we went to inspect neither the bases or the mattresses were zipped together and it too could have done with a more thorough dusting. The room was smaller so we decided to stay where we were, but the staff were really good and apologised for the few niggles. They also provided us with a complimentary bottle of champagne, which went down very well.
Overall I feel the room was a little over priced at least until they are able to tidy up the decor and pay closer attention to the cleanliness. But we booked direct with the hotel as opposed to late rooms or booking.com so we probably paid more than the average rate paid for that room.

Stayed a few nights on business and must admit this is probably the best best western I have stayed and the food was superb
I would highly recommend this hotel and great value, fantastic food and very nice and attentive staff a real credit to Best western

Room Tip: A very nice hotel that's a fair price for a nice experience and recommend the steak off the menu...

Enjoyed my short stay, lovely bar area with real open fire. Room was comfortable, ground floor with patio windows overlooking the gardens. Large conservatory restaurant, food was excellent.
Friendly, welcoming staff to boot. Overall, recommended.

Got a deal from booking.com for this hotel. The room I got had and opaque window so i counldnt see out. The window only opened 3 inches so the room was very dull and lacked air and light. Staff friendly and breakfast good.

Room Tip: ask for a room with patio doors out to the lawn

Dear Reveiwer, Thank you for your review some of the rooms you refer to do indeed have opaque windows at the rear of the hotel, however the windows have a safety catch allowing the windows to be left open for fresh air , however they can also be fully opened by pressing the security /safety catch. However we are pleased that you found our and staff friendly and food/ breakfast good.
