“Very efficient service”
Reviewed 11 July 2013

We enjoyed an initial drink in the bar downstairs and later discovered we could eat on the first floor. Our food was ordered in the bar and shortly after moving upstairs to the restaurant our first course was served. There was nothing particularly outstanding but would recommend the service and food.

“Sunday lunch was terrible and poor value”
Reviewed 3 July 2013

Starting our family's holiday up to Scotland we stopped here on the way up as the reviews on here seemed very good!

It was Sunday so 4 out of 5 of us had the Beef Sunday lunch, when it came, the plate looked bland and boring. Huge pieces of plain cauliflower, NO roast potatoes, just bland balls of mash potatoe and the beef was incredibly bad, wafer thin, tasteless, wet and fatty beyond belief. The overall dish looked soggy and colorless and was tasteless.

The best thing was the pre packed hellmans or heinz horseradish sauce which at least gave a taste!

It really was a POOR meal, and at £8.95 each it was bad value.

The vegetables were basic and flavorless as with the under-cooked cabbage and watery gravy.

Drinks were priced ok otherwise, just the food is shockingly rubbish, the bean burger that the other member of our party had look highly unappetising as well.

Won't be visiting again or recommending.

“Lovely coal fire on cold evening in April.”
Reviewed 14 June 2013

Friendly staff, good value tasty food. We will definitely return. The smaller portions are worth a try as they are perfectly adequate unless you have an enormous appetite and exceptional value for money.

“Very Good Food”
Reviewed 14 June 2013

Had a bar lunch in this hotel last week with a friend and we both had their homemade steak pie with chips. The meal was huge, great portions, I lifted the pastry on my plate to see how much meat there was, and was surprised to see there was enough for two people. The meat was cooked to perfection and it was good quality beef. The chips and veg with it were lovely too. I would highly recommend a visit to this Hotel for a bar lunch or evening meal.
