“well worth a visit”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Went here for an annual family meal. Booked a table for7 and 2 tables stuck side by side which was awkward to get seated for elderly people. Service was pleasant and courteous. Drinks orders were taken promptly and served. Food was very good with a wide variation on the menu. Chicken Stanley was a favourite with our party and enjoyed by everybody. I had placed coupons and the only quibble was the chips or crisps neither one nor the other. Sweets were excellent and wide choice and all homemade. All in all enjoyable meal and portions were a little bigger than previous visits. Well worth a visit.

“extremely good meal in congenial surroundings”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

Thank you too all for wonderful lunch today....We had 3 guests from england and all of us are quality consultants..... or erstwhile... the meet and greet was of the highest order in the anteroom... had the time to select from and very good table d,hote or a la cart menu... not rushed. the ambience was really good.... we had our meals in the lovely decorated conservatory room... decor and cleanliness 100 percent throughout... no piped music!!! so it was wonderful as we had much to talk about... the meal was so well presented, dellivered in good style and the main thing was the choice quality, and value for money. My colleages had visited a few places in the uk this week and considered it a real jewel in the crown for quality of food, cost, and staff friendliness.. Well done all the staff.... It was nice to see them utilising local s oduce in their food, and also make people aware of what was on in the locality with leaflets in an neat and uncluttered way..... My colleages are waiting for spring to revisit....It was very appreciated that my husband was made an alternative sauce for his beef.... thats really going that extra mile

“Dinner OK.”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Had dinner here last week. I opted for the chicken stanley which was very tasty. This was accompanied with potatoes and vegetables, although they don't give you many of these at all. The poor waitress had to read the dessert menu to us and had to do this to everyone else in the restaurant, when it was time for dessert. Why don't they print out dessert menu's and pass them round to everyone when it is time? Seems crazy. I opted for the ice-cream which was OK. All in all it was just "OK".

“The story of Britain and its food”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Menu had some breadth, and interest. Pleasant room appearance, although traditional. Servicewise: we Brits know we risk much when we question quality in the UK. Across Europe and America expressing 'disappointment' in restaurants aspiring to 'good dining' is often met with fingers snapping and waiters whisking food away; with ferocious efforts to please, drinks pouring etc. My main's veggies, neatly presented, arrived ala army canteen style, translucent, having absorbed Castle Loch. Rather than replacing a debate ensued: "most of my customer are senior citizens", "in my opinion they're fine" "that's your opinion" and on the silliness went. £20 steak and £17 escalopes suggested better. Anyway, veggies would take 10 mins to redo. Still didn't appear as denial was order of the day. Dour wooden waiting staff, sauna like conservatory. For provincial Brits, with flat palates, wanting 'good nosh', which is the 1970s mood here, it's fine: 4-stars. If you're wanting 'good dining and service' the concept isn't surfacing. Come on folks! See the wood for the trees. Focus the menu, train the staff and you're away. (£2.50 taken off bill.) Won't be back.

We had friends up from dartford and booked a meal at the last minute and they made everyone so welcome. Food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Well worth a return to. Would certainly recommend this lovely hotel.
