Owner description: Knutsford Heritage Centre is the best way to discover Knutsford and Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford. Changing exhibitions tell the story of Knutsford and its people. Official Walking Tours of Knutsford run every Friday morning (at 11am) from May-October. The Centre also houses the famous Knutsford Tapestry, measuring 52 metres it took 4 years to complete and involved 3,000 people in the stitching. It captures the architecture and every day life of Knutsford in the year 2000.

Friendly ladies in centre who were keen to tell us about the history of Knutsford. Lovely Millennium Tapestry made by the ladies of Knutsford and surrounds. A bit lacking in momentos but in a lovely old building adjacent to The Courtyard Tearoom..

“Lovely little gem”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

Friendly people, warm welcome, beautiful tapestry, tasteful gift shop, interesting and well signed boutique museum. Also a tea/coffee shop next door with model train and penny farthing cycles around the ceiling selling fabulous home-made food and cakes.

I seem to remember that you make a voluntary donation.

“Well Worth a Visit.”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

I have been visiting Knutsford for more years than I care to remember! However, in the future I shall view it with much more interest and knowledge.

I recently joined a group for a Walk and Talk event (1hr.,45mins).We chose "People and Places". Our very pleasant guide led us around various parts of the town and pointed out interesting details about the different buildings, mentioning famous people who had been associated with them. It was fascinating.
Then followed a talk, back at the charming Heritage Centre, about the Knutsford Millenium Tapestry. This proved to be a real source of interest as probably every house in the town was embroidered on to the tapestry (even to a dog on someone's back lawn!).

I can't recommend this place enough. The Knutsford Heritage Centre is a credit to all the volunteers. Thank you to all of you.

“The Knutsford tapestry”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

The heritage centre staff were very helpful and we were given an unexpected talk about the history of the tapestry by a lovely lady who was so knowledgeable. We also did the Elizabeth Gaskell town trail with their useful leaflet.
