Just a short taxi ride from the airport, the Royal Oak is up high in Kirkwall. Nothing was too much trouble for Liz, had a couple of small problems but were sorted without any hassle. room was spacious with plenty of storage for clothes, so if you bring plenty of clothes - no hassle. there is a separate kitchen for the guest to use, with plenty of plates, cutlery, cups, glasses, etc to use. there is a view of Scapa Flow from the window. Breakfast is included in the cost with plenty of choice, which was very good. There are Orkney information pack in the rooms with info of whats on and the islands in the Orkeny group, as well as flyers in the reception area. Around the back there is parking spaces for plenty of cars. The pubs and restaraunts are 'down' in Kirkwall, which are about a 15 min walk, but will take longer going back at your going uphill, but there are plenty of taxis available. The question is "would I go back?" the answer is yes. Very well priced and very comfortable.
