“Good location & modern room!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013 via mobile

A very good location but the only down side to the hotel is it can get quite noisy at closing time from the bar or those who stand outside and smoke, other than that - no complaints! We decided not to have breakfast as the times available were quite early!!

Lovely people working there,we had rooms overlooking the harbour, quiet though they had told us Friday night in the back bar could be noisy with music, hotel also has local bars underneath, breakfast room first floor, clean, en suite, good storage, good breakfast, lovely porridge and cooked breakfast and cereal, easy access to lots of places to eat and enjoy, free parking nearby.. Kirkwall is a business like small town with Orkney's life a clear priority but which is also visitor friendly, St Magnus Cathedral, 1000 years old and nearby palaces a few minutes from the hotel, and the streets shuttered at night, reveal a rather classy series of tourist oriented shops in the day time, Lots to see nearby, by cycle, public transport or car. This hotel was friendly and straightforward, easily phone bookable directly with reception. It is a bed and breakfast hotel which is an advantage when you are stationed in central Kirkwall.

Room Tip: Ask to look over the harbour, scenic and quieter according to hotel

Stayed here on our walking holiday. Arrived by bus so we could have a bit more time in Kirkwall and a look around St. Magnus cathedral. The hotel is opposite the quay and not imposing to look at but the rooms are of an exceptional standard and the staff very friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant next door which was again, first class. Lamb and cous cous to be recommended.

Centrally located went with mates so noise not a problem as we enjoyed night life, noisy outside as popular place for the locals, rooms small and basic but only for a wardrobe and sleeping in so were exactly what we wanted, breakfast was cooked to order so was more than ok.

Room Tip: Rooms all seem the same but front rooms overlook the harbour

Spent a weekend in this hotel during our first visit to Orkney. Got a clean, comfortable, light room with the view to the harbor - my boats obsessed boyfriend was more then delighted! Busy bar downstairs, so I guess sometimes the noises can be quite bad - it didn't bother us tho.Promised wifi signal was very weak and it was almost impossible to use it. Breakfast were ok, tho we had to wait quite a long time to be served. Overall, good hotel with nice views and good location, but maybe next time I'd be looking for something more special.

25 years ago I would have been quite happy to get a room like this but times have moved on. We were looking for a family room for one night and there was not much available so we ended up here. The room was clean and comfortable although the en-suite facilities were rather cramped. Our room looked out over the harbour which gave us good views but it was also above the public bar so was rather noisy. Breakfast was OK but nothing special and there was a fairly limited time window during which it was served. The hotel has no parking but you can park on the street (daytime restrictions apply). There was free wi-fi but we found it rather flaky. In summary, I don't think I'd come back here if I could get in elsewhere.
