Good location

Review of St. Ola Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 May 2022via mobile
This hotel has an excellent location overlooking the harbour. We had a large room which was very clean although the sheets could have done with an iron. We had the fish and chips for dinner which were very good and the breakfast was excellent. Staff are very friendly. The hotel is a bit old fashioned and badly needs a makeover but for a one night stay it was ideal.

Good location of the hotel, but thats all of the positive.
My room was very noisy due to window to back yard with running ventilation fans. Everything is old and a bit shabby. There is a little tiny tv. The room isn’t really clean: a lot of dust and dirt under the bed. To take a shower in the little bathroom is quite a pain. Too small and wobbly shower cabin with a very primitiv warm water heater. Why wasn’t proper plumbing done?

Not worse the high price per night. Far too expensive for such terrible room.

Small single room at the back, no view . Simply furnished, bed comfortable with good heating easy to control. Shower good.

Only criticism is the quality of the quilt which was to thin. My preference is a cool room with warm bedding to sleep so had to supplement cover with my coat!

The food and service were good and staff very helpful

Will stay again in a bigger room.

Room tip: I would pay a little extra for a bigger room with more natural light.

Although we didn't have a reservation, nor were we residents we were lucky enough to get a secluded table. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we could not fault the quality of the food or service. The menu was varied and catered for vegan, gluten free etc requirements. Definitely a place to eat again

The bar manager should have worn his face mask. Other staff did.

Hotel has a one way system for guests which was good. Very cheap prices. Spirts shown on various TVs. Overall quite a nice feel to the place. Booths in the main bar which was nice. Small beer garden.

Saddens me to post this as usually the Ola is my go to for food or drink, but from being there last Saturday evening I can say I will not be running back to have another meal any time soon. Service was rushed from start to finish, our table was booked prior to arrival the evening before. Unfortunately there was no menus given to us on arrival we had to ask for them, to then be told that we had to “You will have to order quickly” (I believe the words what were used) to then having the whole meal rush from there and unfortunately both side portions of chips were cold which was a even bigger let down when the food is normally top form! In these times it’s nice to be able to go out and meet with friends or family from 1 other household, but to go out and have a bit of a disappointing meal isn’t the best. Hopefully it’s a one off and service and food will return how it used to be cheap, good food and cheerful.
