We have just returned from yet another great stay at the Ayre Hotel. Our room was in the new annexe (room 51) and faced the harbour. It was spotless, with a large comfortable bed which made for a great night sleep. The free wi-fi was quick with a great signal. The en suite was a decent size and the power shower a great way to blow the cobwebs off in the morning before breakfast. Speaking of breakfast it too was faultless with both the full Scottish breakfast as well as the Orkney Smoked Salmon with scrambled egg (with a little Grimster cheese from the buffet crumbled over it :-) ) just delicious. There is a nice varied selection on the menu and the Bar and Restaurant menu are available where ever you decide to sit. As always the steak and ale pie was lovely, with top quality chunks beef used in the filling. The chicken stuffed with haggis, served with a creamy whisky sauce was also a highlight. Amongst the starters the trio of Orkney seafood was great, as was the Mushroom Romaine (which I tried for the first time). A special mention has to go to the Scapa Special real ale which goes down a treat. The staff as always were very welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. So thanks again to all the team at the Ayre Hotel we will definitely be returning again real soon p.s....More
