Description: An Italian Cafe Bistro with a local twist. Telephone number is 07936 045708. They do not appear to have their own website but the URL above is taken from Local Data Search. It's a cracking wee place and deserves to be listed on tripadvisor.

Nice cafe on Victoria Street in the heart of Kirkwall. Excellent choice of local produce. Good coffee. Frindly service. Light bright decor.

“Puzzled by their menu”
Reviewed 11 August 2012

Zio Franco sits in totally uninspiring premises (the above picture is truthful), with decor more reminiscent of an old-style hippy place than a 21st century cafe. Their staff is extremely helpful and the prices very good. The menu is very very limited, and I was baffled by their boast of offering food "predominantly Italian but with an Orcadian twist". Since when does Spanish-inspired food (ex: tortillas) rank as Italian or has is an Orcadian twist for that? Perhaps a truthful summary would be: limited yet honest menu, prepared on the premises, with a bit of everything as long as it does not take too much time and too much effort to cook it.

“Very Tasty!!”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

Went to Zio Franco's on the 26th July for lunch. Had a ciabatta chicken, mozarella and red pesto pizza, which was recommended by the staff. Very delicious and wow what a portion!!! Will definately be eating here again. Recommended to anyone looking for fresh food with an italian twist.

“First-class food, service and ambience”
Reviewed 30 June 2012

This is probably my favourite cafe in Orkney. The food is light, healthy and delicious, inexpensive - and filling! The staff are always friendly, welcoming and go out of their way to make it a pleasant experience. If I ran a cafe, I'd model it on this one.

“Moldy toasties and poor, poor service”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

My partner and I recently ate at Zio Francos. We both read the menu in the window for breakfast rolls. We ordered tea from a very unfriendly waitress to be told that breakfast was off at 11.45 am ( serving to 12.00 noon ).
We decided to go for the toasties instead, my second mistake of the day... the first one was entering the building. We were then greeted by a second waitress, who couldn't wait to tell us she should not be a work because she has the flu.
After the toasties arrived by a third and different waitress, she did point out they were toasties and left. After eating less than half of the lunch, my partner finally worked out the unusual taste. Mold and plenty of it on the inside of the bread ( most was hidden because it was toasted mold ). I did let them know and offered to pay for my tea, the cashier disappeared to get approval that this was ok. The Flu waitress did offer to give us another dish free of charge and blamed the bakery and that the bread was only two days old. Green on white is usually easy to spot.
Having worked in this industry myself for 18 years, disappointing performance by Zio. p.s The Cherry tomato was good!
