“Great location, ideal”

A quiet unassuming hotel, located in the heart of Kirkwall adjacent to St Magnus Cathedral, Earl and Bishops Palaces. Pleasant staff, good sized room with large ensuite - and a tasty breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. Okay so its a bit tired and the shower was not ideal but overall a good hotel at a very reasonable nightly rate. Would definately stay again.

We spent 2 out of 4 of our booked nights at this hotel. We arrived to be met by noone at reception. The room we were shown to was dirty and felt as though it hadn't been dusted for a number of weeks. My partner found hairs in the bed and on closer inspection the bed itself was soiled with tired linen. the shower didn't work and was either freezing of boiling with no pressure to boot. we complained and were met with a complete lack of interest. The public bar was not dirty and dingy. The breakfast fruit diish was measly to say the least and the buffet unenterprising. We left after 2 nights as the staff clearly had no interest in dealing with out complaint.

I have been visiting Orkney for the last 4-5 years over the bank holiday weekend. I was greeted by the owner who made sure everything was sorted and is always on hand for any queries. This is the first time I have stayed at the hotel and was very impressed. The rooms are clean and well kept and have everything you expect. Breakfast was a particular highlight with a wide selection of hot and cold meals prepared to a high standard and I highly recommend it! The hotel is as central as you can be in Kirkwall and is near the main shops, bars etc. The staff are extremely helpful and ensured my stay was enjoyable. Overall I have np issues and will be certain to return the future!

Like many hotels it is a little tired in places. But it is clean, our room was light, bright and a good size. The location is good and it has car parking. The staff (including the owner) were friendly and the food was good. Yes, getting the shower to a sensible temperature was fiddly but the bath was a reasonable alternative. We would certainly return.

A warm and friendly service and a large well equipped room. Breakfast was enjoyable and the portions of cooked breakfast were generous.
You could not ask for a better location minutes from the cathedral.
There was one small minor hiccup where a guest above was having a long and thorough shower and a small amount of water came through the path of least resistance (the fire alarm fitting). Probably due to the very nice wood effect floor in the bathroom. The staff promptly arrived with a few towels to catch the drips and were extremely apolegetic. I returned from a night out with friends to find a bar of Orkney fudge in the room (just the ticket after a few Orkney ales) and a note again apologising and explaining that the issue had been resolved.
All in all I had a very pleasant stay in Kirkwall and would sincerely recommend the Orkney Hotel.

Stayed 1 night April 26, 2012, a little hard to find at first, however worth the effort! Hotel is in a pedestrian precinct so walked everywhere..Room was lovely, bright, corner room on 2nd floor ..no elevator..older hotel that has been updated. Very clean, large bathroom with good towels, hairdryer, tea maker in the room. Great location for visiting St Magnus Cathedral, the Earl's and Bishop's Palaces. Nice dining room with delicious food and very nice and helpful staff.

We stayed for two nights, and though it was off season the food was terrific. the entrance hall is lovely and the staff friendly. room was small but adequate, and clean. Hotel was very quiet at night and we slept well. there are two bars here one a local pub and the other a residents lounge both very different. the best thing here is the wonderful food, all cooked fresh by the chef and served quickly. only downside was the size of the portions are huge. but if you have been walking all day it would be great. sat nav sends you to front of hotel and parking is at the rear, so dont be put off. just ask to be directed to a large safe car park at the rear. If i were to visit Orkney again i would stay here.
