“No sleep for a week”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We were really looking forward to our Shetland holiday and exploring the islands. This hostel had really good reviews, but to our disappointment we now have spent a whole week without any sleep at all. There were parties all night, slamming with doors and the hostel management seemed to approve. If you want any sleep during your stay, we recommend you finding somewhere else to stay. Otherwise the location and rooms are good.

Right from making the telephone booking, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Very clean, with great shared facilities - large kitchen and dining room and comfortable communal areas - quiet reading area and tv room with sofas. Lovely hot showers. I had a bunk in a 12 person dormitory, the mattress could have been more comfortable - after six nights I was missing my own bed but that was the only fault. There was a handy plug by the bed to charge my phone and free wifi - not only in the hostel but the community centre next door (which did good cooked breakfasts) and all the ferry ports!
There was a wide range of ages staying but all were friendly and I met some really interesting people. Lots of leaflets and information about the surrounding area were available.
It wasn't at all intimidating for the first time solo traveller - it was my first hostel experience and very positive; and at £20 a night, excellent value for money.

Second visit as this is the only hostel in Lerwick. I think a refurbish of rooms is required as the iron bunks with hospital type mattresses are a tad out-dated along with the well worn linen. However you cannot fault the cleanliness and very good kitchen facilities and of course the welcome. This is not 5 star as I have stayed in beautiful YHA Hostels in Yorkshire which are far superior. Yes, I would stay again but I would request a particular floor.

Room Tip: Once again placed in a top floor room for four (201), no shower on this floor however 2 toilets (mal...

Booked a 4 bed room for private use as a last minute thing and couldn't have been happier. Jim on reception was a great welcoming committee and made sure i had evwrything i needed. Had a lovely view over the gardens from room 9 and an en suite. The shower smelt a wee bit foosty but I'm sure with a good air it would be grand. I had two great nights sleep and even a nap during the day before the family wedding I was attending. The only problem I found was that people were allowed to check in at 8am on the day of my departure and a large group of ignorant adults and children who had clearly never stayed in a hostel before made a lot of noise in the corridor and rooms surrounding mine and woke me up. Given that check out isn't till 10.30 it would be nice for guests if people weren't allowed up to their rooms till after 9.30. Especially if they have no concept of other people's needs. But I would definitely come back again because it's just lovely.

Stayed here with a few friends for a couple of nights on a cycling trip around Shetland. Superb, clean accommodation with lots of facilities for a hostel. The hosts were extremely friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Wish YHA hostels were this good!

Lovely hostel - very friendly staff - very spacious and super clean. Had major problems learning how to work the electronic keys but this the was the least of our problems. Quite central aswell and a little bit pricey but still a fantastic hostel and well worth the visit - let us leave our bags in the storage room in the morning so we could explore Lerwick.

The hostel is located in a gorgeous building full of vast clean common areas. It is clean and very well equipped. However, solo females have to stay in the only female dormitory which is a twelve-bedded room with no headlights. Lights were supposed to be off by 11pm but many girls didn't seem to care about the quietness if the place.,All the smaller rooms are reserved to groups! I was very disappointed by such a policy!
