Booked an ItIsOn deal at £79 DB&B with a bottle of wine in the room. Had requested the same room as last time on the first floor and got it.

It was a huge room with a large bay window opposite the bed and another window opposite the dressing table, both overlooking the courtyard. There was a king sized bed with a bedside table each side, 2 luggage racks and 2 armchairs at the bay window. There was a 32” flat screen TV.

There was a desk and chair and a large dressing table and chair where the tea and coffee making facilities were. There was a double wardrobe with hanging and shelf space, an ironing board with trouser press and an iron and hairdryer.

The bathroom was small and functional with a three piece white suite with shower over the bath and a heated towel rail. However it is in need of refurbishment. The towels were OK. There was no shower gel, but there were 2 shampoo instead, body lotion and soap.

There were stairs to the courtyard just a few feet from the room. The courtyard has several picnic tables and chairs with parasols.

The hotel is old, but has lots of character. It is slightly worn in places, but mostly in good order. Guests can use the leisure facilities and pool at the sister hotel, the Windlestrae, across the road. There are 5 options of places to eat – Basil’s restaurant and Jock’s bar at the Green, Monty’s Pizzeria and Rushes at the Windlestrae and there is the Boathouse Bistro at Loch Leven which is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute away.

There is a beauty salon and a shop onsite. The hotel has free wifi throughout. However it was worse than useless. It connected OK, but no pages would load. I called Reception and they said it had been slow and they would reboot, but that made no difference.

There was supposed to be a bottle of wine in the room. When I called down about 3pm they said they were being delivered, but it still hadn’t arrived by 5pm so hubby went down to reception. He was told there was no-one in when they tried to deliver it. He told them that wasn’t true as we had never left the room. They offered to deliver it, but he said he would wait.

Phoned down when the wifi still wasn’t working. She said they had been having major problems all week, that it was getting fixed and it was working at reception if I wanted to go down. However when I tried to connect with my phone later I still couldn’t connect right at Reception.

Menu at dinner in Basil’s restaurant - chilled watercress soup, prawn cocktail, ham hock and pistachio terrine. Chicken wrapped in cured bacon, lamb shank or fish and chips. Creme brulee with rhubard, iced mango parfait, cheese and biscuits. Coffee and tablet. Sirloin and rib-eye steak is available at a supplement of £2.50 and comes with a sauce. It was very good.

Breakfast is served 08.00-10.00.

Breakfast was good. There was a selection of fruit juices, fresh fruit, grapefruit, prunes, cheese, ham and cereals. There was bacon, link sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, mushrooms, beans, tomato, scrambled and fried eggs.

The hotel is very popular with golfers as there are two golf courses within walking distance to the hotel.

Would I come back? Not unless they get the wifi problem fixed. They shouldn’t advertise free wifi throughout when it doesn’t work. I was told at check out that it was an area-wide problem and local people were changing their ISP. However when I asked who their ISP was they didn't know.

stayed here for the weekend for my Grans 70th Birthday, it was a family get together, with 17 in our party!! After getting a deal through Itison for a bargain, on-route I had my doubts, How wrong was I! I have stayed in many Hotels, Guest houses and cottages and have never experienced more friendlier staff! Nothing was a problem, each and every person went well out of there way to accommodate our large party we even had a private dining area on the Saturday night! The Hotel is lovely the rooms were huge, it was clean and comfy. The food was amazing, the swimming pool, sauna and jaccuzzi were a bonus and a choice of bars to drink in! The Boathouse bistro is also lovely, we were lucky enough to meet Santa which made the Kids weekend that bit more special! I would highly reccommend this Hotel and will definitely be back in the near future!

My husband and i had a 2 night stay on a b & b basis. Our room was lovely, large, spotlessly clean. Bar & lounge areas also. Vaseem shaikh was polite, courteous and approachable as all staff attentive to your requirements. We had dinner at the carvery on sunday, the roasts were good and plentiful no complaints. Monday dinner at montys again great meal.
Leisure facilities were good, staff again attentive. Pool, sauna, steam room, gym all were excellent across in sister hotel. Nice break away.

Room Tip: Middle suites top floor spacious and sunny.

I went for a two day golf and spa weekend, dinner bread and breakfast was included. The staff are nice but the hotel isnt. I can get away with the peeling bathroom ceiling, stained bath and hard beds but we went away for golf. Booked a round on one course one day and the other course the second day. Wasnt informed that the first day due to play was the day they were turning the two courses into one for winter, it wasnt the fact that due to course conditions you had to play off the rough not the fairway. It was the fact that after the first two holes they hadnt marked out the holes. No idea where to tee off from with tees either side and no marking whatsoever, we were later informed that they dont mark out the courses unless they remember they have visitors. Yes thats right a golf club that sells to a lot of visitors doesnt mark out its courses.

Ruined the holiday didnt get to play golf and was palmed off with a refund of one game of golf.

To be fair the restaurant food was lovely though they only had us in that night so they had to get rid of the puddings for that night in the bar the next day. Jocks bar food is plentiful but its freezing in there so wrap up warm if you go there to eat. Just dont go for the golf

Stayed at the hotel for three nights on a bed and breakfast, 2 nights dinner basis. Very nice large room, which was a little cool despite radiator being red hot. Probably the high ceiling to blame. Staff very friendly and attentive. Highlight was the dinners we had in Basil's. Excellent food and great service from the young but efficient waiting staff. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

The staff are excellent, the hotel cosy, the room was excellent (nice and warm)
Bottle of wine on arrival.
Dinner in the Hotel resturant (Basil's) was 10/10
The Spa at the Hotel's twin across the road was superb as well - Heated indoor pool, steam room and suna.

A nice relaxing time and just 40 minutes from home.

We have lunched in Jock's Bar several times over the past 2 years. The food has always been excellent - quickly served and nicely presented. The staff can be slightly brusque but are good and attentive. We have never been disappointed, nor had any reason to complain. (Group of three - one friend and two family.)
The list of house wines is generous, and easy to see (on a blackboard) so that you need not hurry, and you know the price (small glass, large glass, or bottle) before ordering.
There is also a restaurant but we have stuck to Jock's Bar as the comfort, prices and quality suit us all.
