“Friendly staff, fantastic room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

Stayed 2 weeks at this hotel. The reception was very welcoming and helpful when you checked in and out. Every staff that you meet on your way in and out of the hotel always have a smile for you.

Breakfast was fantastic and the staff really makes you feel welcome. I dropped my stylus pen in breakfast room and they kept it for me and make sure they returned it to me the next morning.

My only gripe was that as I stayed for 4 nights per week, there is only one miniature body gel in the bathroom and you don't get another one even if you finished the small tube on Night 1.

We had booked to stay one night in the Green Hotel as part of a trip for my brother who had travelled from Canada with his wife. Unfortunately there had been a mix up and the date we had booked was the day before we actually arrived. We arrived at approximately 10pm to find the Green Hotel was fully booked. The receptionist was incredibly helpful and managed to find us two rooms in the 'stables" (a building just down the road from the hotel) even hough they were under no obligation to do so. These rooms were basic but perfectly clean with all the necessary amenities. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and served in the the comfortable dining area. The helpful attitude of the receptionist turned what could have been a disaster into a very well rested evening. Can't thank them enough!!

Stayed at the green for two nights on the 27/7/13. Room was FAB! Very spacious and spotlessly clean with great views over the garden. The food was delicious although I was a little concerned having read other reviews that the portions were very small. NO SUCH THING! These people clearly do not get fine dining and FINE it was. The food was excellent with a great choice and the portions were more than enough for the AVERAGE BEAR! Staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a great time at the hotel which was excellent value for money. I would agree that parts of the hotel are a little shabby but a refurbishment is on the cards. we were able to see past this as the rooms and food were great and the hotel was spotless. This will be hard to beat when the refurbishment is complete just hope it remains good value!. Had a great relaxing break and will defo be back!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to one of the corner rooms as they are very spacious.

Can only comment on the bar area as it was a flying visit to the area to watch the ladies golf at St Andrews. The bar staff were all very friendly and attentive. The range of food ; whilst not extensive was well cooked and served. our group of three sampled the steak, mushroom and sausage? pie with chips served in a basket, Chicken Fajitias and Augus beefburger. Most for around the £8.00 mark. Food was hot (surprising how many places don't get that right.) and all served together (again a black mark against some places). All was polished off!!. The room had plenty of space so felt like you had your own place and not watching that your elbows don't dip into someones soup. Seems like locals use the bar so can get a little loud but would recommend if in the area and fancy a little of good scottish cooking.

Stayed at The Green for a 2 night spa break with my wife. If you are planning a visit to The Green or The Windlestrae (sister hotel) booking the spa treatment is a must! It was a fist time spa break for us, and we were feeling a little uncomfortable about what to expect, but the 2 ladies in the spa were superb, talked you through every little detail, and the treatment itself (75 minute body ritual) is quite simply sensational. Not only was it relaxing, it worked wonders for my bad knees due to arthritis.

Our room in The Green was spacious and clean, what you would expect from a room within a 4 star hotel. The room also had a 2 seated couch, and 2 single arm chairs which was ideal for a little rest, you normally find yourself lying on the bed!

We spent most of our time in the sister hotel, purely because of the leisure facilities, and the menu in Monty's was a little more suited to our tastes. The bar in the Windlestrae also had a tv on the music channel. But taking nothing away from The Green, if you are looking for a very relaxing Break, The Green is probably the right hotel.

Breakfast had everything you could want, continental and cooked. You won't go hungry!

My only criticism of the whole stay, and this is clutching at straws in order to balance out the review, is that we did have to wait a little while to order drink at the bar in Rushes bar, Wendy was behind the bar herself all afternoon and was trying to manage 3 or 4 different areas, serving customers in the bar and running back and forth to the kitchen with food etc.

If I was to make one suggestion, it would be for a jukebox, or music of some sort in Jocks bar in the Green Hotel. There was only one other couple in the bar when we went in for a drink, and there was absolutely no atmosphere, very quiet.

Overall, a great stay and we will definitely be back

Room Tip: Room 33 had a great view into the large garden area

Beware if you are taking people under 18 years old on a Saturday evening. They have to be out by 8pm. We had a table booked for 7pm and waited over 35 minutes for our first (and only as it turned out) course. Food was excellent but poor service meant our Granddaughter did not get a pudding as we had to leave by 8, even though she was 16 years old.
Perhaps it would be a good idea if receptionists tell this fact to folk booking on a Saturday. it did spoil our evening out.

Stayed 2 nights on a business trip. Basically the hotel is very good but also very dated, my room was huge with a 4 poster bed. The food in Jocks bar was reasonably priced and was of a decent standard. A lick of paint and some new furniture would do this place wonders. Staff very helpful, but no wi-fi which was a bit of a pain and the gym was n the sister hotel across the road but I got a B and B rate for £62 as a single occupant which was a bargain.

Would I stay there again? not for a business trip but would use for a base on a short leasure break
