Found this pub by sheer chance on a trip down to London. Easy access from the M11 on junction 7, great to get off the busy road for a while into a different world. Great food, but most notably, really courteous service, a bit of a rarity nowadays. Extremely popular, and deservedly so.

There are many country pubs in the Herts and Essex borders and not one for going to the same place twice I have sampled more than my fair share. The Rainbow and Dove is different however and we find ourselves back there time and time again. Staff are super-friendly as are the owners Andy and Katie. Having kids we typically opt for the traditional pub grub of Sunday roast, ham, egg and chips or a jacket with chilli but the menu is extensive with some great gastro-pub offerings and the quality is always first rate. Wine and beer selection is very good too with regular ale specials to sample and some quality reds (I don't drink white). New barn and outdoor tables in the gardens make it a great option for a summers day but even when the English weather is not at it's best they will try hard to find room for you, if like us you tend to not book in advance.

Lovely surroundings and lovely owners. Food always delivered with a smile! Always a friendly welcome and can never do enough for you. Even our dog Teddy loves it! One of the reasons we love it so much is that dogs are welcome! Even cook sausages for him and provide fresh water! Can't ask for more than that! Menu is great with plenty of variety and always on hand to recommend a good wine! Sunday roasts are huge! Make sure you book in advance though as very busy! Beer garden is lovely with views over farmland. Been to a couple of music evenings arranged by Kate the landlady and always a great night out. Check out their FB page for upcoming gigs (that's what we do!). There is a barn attached to the side where there are BBQ's and live music! Kids are always welcome too! If you want great food, lovely atmosphere and a friendly face def one to visit!

We visited this pub for lunch last week due to its proximity to the North Weald Airfield (where we were headed afterwards) and being in the Good Pub Guide and how lovely it was. Really nice menu selection plus extras to choose from on the specials board. The sausage and mash was lovely, but sausages were very very hot (a couple of burnt mouths from them), veggie curry also stated as delicious and the smoked mackerel pate was yummy. Berry sundaes to follow along with 1 lemon sorbet which all went down a treat. The service was great but got a little slow towards the end of our lunch, I think that the only waitress was rushed off her feet in a busy lunch time service. Overall a lovely lunch which added to our great day out. Would definitely visit again should we ever be back in the area.

Daytoday77,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Your comments regarding your recent visit with us have been passed onto all of our team members. Customer feedback for us is invaluable & with each review we receive we try to better ourselves using the suggestions, critiques & opinions which are left for us.
Our waitresses are extremely good, we are incredibly fortunate to have them as part of our team, indeed at times we perhaps take that for granted. As owners we normally work alongside our waitresses & run the front of house with them, however it would seem on this occasion our presence has been missed. We will endeavour to provide more support to our team members therefore giving our customers a swifter & more consistent level of service...
Thank you again for your kind review

Regards
Katie Keep

My second time to visit this pub and again had a warm welcome good well kept beer and a very good meal at a reasonable price, served in an efficient and friendly manner.
This is a nice unpretentious pub serving good food from first rate ingredients, with friendly staff will be returning.
