“Monday quiz night !”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

Had supper and quiz night in the hotel.
I did not stay, but thought the hotel was really smart. Everything looked up to date and had attractive styling.
There were not huge numbers of people at the quiz, but it was great. The questions were quite fiendish and the barman made it lively. Was very happy with my night out even though we lost shamefully!

We had trouble finding our way around as the signs were not very good.and nobody around to ask
The food was good but pricey. My wife had the meal of the day which turned out be very good and
good value. We will be going again.

Room Tip: Go early if you can before the staff go home.

We attended a family birthday and anniversary dinner the food was great thanks Chef, the staff ensured that everyone was looked after. The room setting was beautiful and led out to a well attended patio and garden.
I would like to thank our staff especially Carol, Josh and Holly for their excellence service which was friendly and professional.

Very modern decor - has recently been refurbished. Room was lovely and warm, coffee / tea / biscuits in room.......TV very small. Bed was comfy and lots of pillows!! Furniture in bedroom rustic oak - really stylish. Friendly and welcoming service - the female staff member who checked me in even carried my suitcase upstairs for me! Breakfast was "ok" - served in a lovely room, looking onto beautiful gardens. Service was a little slow (but then, I was in a hurry). I wish places like this would do things like pancakes / waffles. Would return - great. Only £85 for the night

Room Tip: No lift so if heavy luggage, ask for a room near reception!!

Dear Jenniepearson, thank you for taking the time to post a review. I too am struggling to comment too much on this reply as your review is a little confusing. Lots of positive comments from you and as far as I am aware no complaints during your visit? However you awarded us an "ok". We do hope that you will consider visiting us again so that perhaps we can increase the rating you have awarded us. Thank you again for posting a review.

We had heard mixed reviews about the new Italian restaurant so to celebrate my wifes birthday we decided to give it a go for ourselves.
Our first impression of the restaurant itself was that it looked very nice and modern.
We were shown to our table and handed the menu by a sullen looking waitress. The prices were the first thing to catch our eyes. We are not adverse to paying good money for meals as we are both foodies but i am talking top class restaurants with michellin stars or rosettes, not a run of the mill Italian restaurant!!!
Anyway, we ordered a bottle of white wine with a name we have never heard of, in fact none of the wines on the list are what you would call well known. When it arrived the waitress had failed to open it for us and looked very put out when i mentioned this to her. To say the wine was average is an under statement. At a guess i would say it cost them no more than £5.00 for the bottle which is a pretty good mark up for them as it cost us the best part of £30.00!!
The cheerfull waitress then came back and took our order. 35 minutes later our starter came out and to be honest, it wasnt worth the wait. My wifes starter was stone cold and mine was bland and over cooked. Nearly an hour later our main course came out. My meal which was a meat dish was again over cooked and my wifes meal was a mountain of congealed pasta. We both got half way through the meal and decided to call it a day. No sooner had we put our cutlery down, the waitress returned and whisked away the plates from under or noses without even asking why we had left half of our meals.
At this point i was so annoyed with the way the evening had gone that i asked for the bill from a male member of staff, paid it and we left.
We will not be returning to this restaurant as it is just an immitation Italian that is over priced with below average food and staff that could do with a lesson in customer service.
Save your money and go to a restaurant such as Zizzi or Ask. You will find the prices more realistic, the food more authentic Italian and if you fancy a pizza, they actually do sell them!!!

Dear Mike L, firstly, thank you for taking the time to post a review. However, we wish you had shared your concerns with us at the time of dining instead of choosing to leave early without giving us a chance to correct anything you were unhappy with. We take all our reviews seriously and we learn from justifiable constructive criticism. Be assured we have noted where we might, in future, be able to better ourselves. Unfortunately, it has to be noted that your comments regarding our Wine List are extrememly unreasonable. Our extensive list of wines have been carefully chosen and are certainly not 5 pound bottles which could be bought at the local supermarket. It is disappointing for us that you did not enjoy your evening but we are an independent authentic italian restaurant, using, where possible, local fresh ingrediants. From your review it seems you prefer to frequent the more chain-style italian, this is totally acceptable and we are not in competition with these establishments. We simply offer a fabulous fresh menu with a personal touch.

We had our wedding at The Newtown House Hotel in June last year. Everything was just perfect from our initial meeting through to the actual day, I could not have asked for a better venue to hold our wedding. On our first visit when we went into just make enquiries about holding our wedding there, Carol took the time to show around the venue and talk us through the day and gave us lots of information about the venue and different options available to us. We fell in love with the venue and felt it would be perfect for us. After deciding on the venue we had to return to our home in Australia and continue planning the wedding from overseas.....Carol was so helpful and supportive during this time, and any questions I had were quickly answered by email, we were also offered the option of skyping the hotel, we didnt feel the need to but it was lovely to have been given the option. This is one of the things I really loved about the Newtown....you feel that they actually care about you and your big day, Carol shows such an interest and makes helpful suggestions, the service you receive whilst planning is invaluable. On the day everything ran smoothly, the staff were great and so very helpful. The food was excellent and the set up of the room for both the ceremony and reception was just beautiful. All of my guests were really looked after and had a great day, alot of them commented on how it was the best wedding they had been to! Our thanks again to Carol and all the staff who made our day so special.
