Owner description: et in the picturesque Shibden valley, a mile from Halifax, Shibden Hall dates back to 1420 and offers visitors a fascinating journey through the lives of the people who lived and worked here. Shibden Hall's architecture is a mix of styles reflecting its interesting and varied history. The adjacent 17th century aisled barn and workshops house a carriage collection and displays relating to different crafts, including a blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights and saddlers. Shibden even has a recreated brewhouse and inn. The Hall is surrounded by the beautifully restored gardens and estate that forms Shibden Park. There are a range of features and attractions, including a cafe and visitor facilities, miniature railway, boating lake, pitch & putt course as well as trails, play area, orienteering course and woodland in which to roam.

I am local to shibden hall and park so maybe a little biased, i have been a visitor most of my life and the place still fascinates me. I have visited many similar places but nothing compares with shibden ,the hall dates from 1420 with later additions the interior and exterior are to say the least splendid the aspect from the hall is wonderfull, the park offers many attractions, woodland walks, an exceptional childrens play ground, miniature railway, putting green, acres of picnic spots, boating lake, gardens, visitors centre, cafes. The recent improvements are excellent and sympathetically done, if you have never been to shibden you are in for a treat, the hall is regarded as one of the finest folk museums in the north and rightly so, the whole place is well kept, the staff friendly , helpfull. and knowledgeable, am i biased ?well maybe but it really is a great place to visit.

Neither England nor Yorkshire are short of stately homes to visit but Shibden Hall is not as well known as some, although it is of top standard.
The buildings are situated in well planned and extensive grounds with a boating lake for children and several outdoor trails. Children with lively minds also get considerable enjoyment from looking at the old workshops with hand tools and the coaches in the old barn and farm buildings now converted into a museum behind the hall. These are also interesting to adults.
The hall itself appeals mainly to adults. it is administered by Calderdale Council and was first built in the 15th century. However changes took place to represent current fashion until, in the late 19th century, it was deliberately redesigned to restore the 15th century half-timbered facade.
The rooms are beautifully maintained, with perhaps the most striking things of all being the kitchen hearth and the wonderful 16th century oak table in the housebody, about 5 meters long.
