“Canal & River Calder”

Sowerby Bridge Canalside
Reviewed 19 September 2014

Didn't have long to spend there but enjoyed every minute. Great views of the canal and moorside with interesting old industrial buildings on the canal-side now converted to restaurants etc.

Locks to see, lots of canal boats.
Plenty of seats to sit and enjoy. The old buildings have been preserved.A visit will give you a flavour of transport before the Railways.

A stunning place for an evening stroll after a meal in The Village opposite. Beautifully restored buildings with historical interest and modern usage. The canal is lovingly restored and navigable. The wharf is home to houseboat residents who add an element of interest to the area. A short stroll up to the chain bridge and a rest on the bench afforded views of geese and ducks but also bats. The area has brought our industrial heritage into modern use wholly successfully.

We regularly take a walk along the canal from Copley to Sowerby Bridge. There is always something of interest to view from the canal side. Wildlife is in abundance, ducks, geese, and the occasional heron can be seen. Well worth a visit.

Great place to walk if you are wanting a general stroll, probably the only place you can walk without hills! Great for kids and bikes
