Good and Bad points listed below:

Good points
--Quick check-in once we found them in the bar (there was a sign on the front door), friendly receptionist
--Car Park is free
--Double spacious room clean
--Clean bedding, towels
--Close to town centre

Bad points:
--AWFUL lighting in room- very dull and gloomy
--Shower terrible - the water pressure maybe? drizzled out. Bath taps sounded like they would explode! was like something off faulty towers
--Strange - no toilet brush in the bathroom
--Bathroom door looked like someone had punched it or something, it had a big dent
J--ust one tiny tiny bottle of shower gel which didn't go far with two of us - bring your own
--Breakfast - self service - budget Orange Juice, cheap bread, no fruit but did have cereals, jam, etc- in fairness the staff here were very quick in clearing tables
--Toaster - everyone struggled standing there trying to get it to work, they need to put a sign or instructions as everyone(not just us)turned the dial but nothing happened, it was a flick of a switch on the thing -once we knew we kept telling people what customers needed to do to get it to work!

This place looked like it needed a bit of TLC but overall for the money it was good. I think they need to up their game on the food, hoover under the bed and sort out the lighting and shower. I don't think one tiny bottle is enough for two people but the thought was there. One night was enough.

I was there as a guest of the Halifax Model Railway Club, since I was helping operate a visiting layout. Bed in single room had not been remade with fresh sheets after previous occupant, a colleague staying for only one night before I took over despite two colleagues having been assured it would be. While the sheets were changed, the single bed was very lumpy, and had only one pillow. The bar did not serve any cask beer or real ale, only lagers. My friends and I did not dine there. Breakfast disappointed because plates were stone cold, so food rapidly became so too.

We were so well treated by the receptionist here it made our stay a delight. It's a good value basic hotel with a restaurant attatched. The restaurant was greatly above average and served delicious food which in my view was slightly under priced. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a nice bath and shower. Breakfast was acceptable for the money although I got a little bit confused over how it would be served and somehow ended up with only two fried eggs, although when I asked for a sausage and a hash bown they were quickly provided.

Stayed here a weekend in August. Am a regular traveller to Halifax and have used most of the hotels. We decided to try the Wool Merchant because it offered a very reasonable rate at short notice. There were a number of good points: the staff were welcoming and helpful; parking was free and plentiful; the room was large, clean and generally quiet; the bathroom was modern with a good shower; facilities were generally fine. Some areas that we thought could be improved: bathroom lighting was very poor; some screws were missing from the shower door so the handles were a bit loose; there was no bath mat; only full fat milk was available in the rooms; there was no hair dryer - though one was supplied when I asked for it; breakfast was basic and limited. One the whole we thought we got what we paid for - it is easily on a par with Days Inn or Travelodge. We might stay there again but would probably prefer to pay a little more and go elsewhere.

Great if you want a clean bed and a hot shower for the night but bedrooms far too light due to poor quality of curtains and 2 street lamps right outside...... Should have been considered. Looked forward to breakfast but was VERY disappointed. No personal service at all, tables not even laid up for breakfast. It was not a pleasant experience and on the second morning (after being told we had to wait for a table as non were available) we went to another hotel in town and had a delicious breakfast. Some research, by management, should be done locally to see what the competition offers....... They can only benefit from this exercise. We will not return here but will go to the White Swan Hotel. Good rooms, GREAT BREAKFAST. Sorry but this had to be said.......
