“Another lovely Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2012

Stayed at White lodge again (many visits) lovely welcome and great breakfast every time. Come to Yarmouth to visit mum , tried a few B&B's before finding Jean and Eddie (and George), no need to look any further now, Whiteloge is so welcoming.

We have just got back from an overnight stay at The White Lodge and had a great experience. Jean went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The room was perfect; en-suite, sea-view with all the facilities you would expect from an established B&B. The breakfast was quality, kept us well fuelled for most of the day. We would highly recommend The White Lodge and look forward to staying there again in the future.

We have stayed in 5 places in Great Yarmouth and this is by far and away the best and is the only one that we would definitely return to. Before we even left home Jean texted us to let us know that our room was ready and that we could arrive early if we wished.

Right from stepping through the door Jean was very welcoming and helpful - showed us to our room and explained how everything works. The room we had was superb (Room 1); the bed was super king sized and was so comfortable, we had 2 good nights sleep and now realise that we need a new bed at home. The room has a seaview and was well appointed with a large tv, and plentiful supply of tea, coffee and milk (and even proper biscuits). The only minor thing was that the bathroom had not been renovated to the same standard as the room, but this was not an issue as it was fully functional and was as good as or better than most other places that we have stayed in. The room was also very clean!!

The breakfast was the best I have ever experienced in any hotel anywhere in the world - basically Jean takes your order for full english the night before and the time that you would like to eat - the full english is amazing and cooked to perfection - everything else was just help yourself and it really is help yourself to as much as you want ; cereals, fruit, toast, yoghurt, porridge - I really don't understand what the earlier review was complaining about with having to make their own toast - not many places allow you to eat as much as you want - but I guess there is no pleasing some people!!!

Jean is a natural at what she does - I mentioned to her when we arrived that it was my birthday and when we returned back to the room after taking a wonder around the resort there was a birthday card waiting for me!

We will definitely be returning to Great Yarmouth and we are pleased that we have now found somewhere to return to!

we had a really good stay here, the owners are friendly and helpfull , breakfast is everything you would expect from a highly rated traditional english bb. The renovation that the owners have undertaken makes this more than your average seaside b&b. contrary to the detrimental review (i think the only 1) that is below, we fully understood the efforts that have been made to ensure that the original design and art deco period of the build is upheld in the furnishings and decor. This has added to the ambience and to us makes this a fun, comfortable and very enjoyable choice if visiting the great yarmouth area. It is also positioned well at the "decent" end of town, with seaviews. if you are looking for a traditional B&B with a twist, this is as good as it gets. its a shame my mates didnt have time to visit the on site beauty salon,as they need it ! many thanks to jean, "ill be back"

Jean & Eddie, the owners of this wonderful guest house, did everything to make our stay quite the best we have ever experienced in a B&B in the UK. Our room was just perfect, exceptionally clean, beautifully furnished and with a powerful refreshing shower. The beds were so comfortable we slept much better than at home and the room had flowers as well as a very good selection of coffee and teas with delicious biscuits. There was plenty of car parking on Marine Crescent, a quiet, safe road outside the hotel, which is located only a few yards from the picturesque Yarmouth sand-dunes, the beach and the sea. The breakfasts were just wonderful! All the hot food is home-cooked by Jean and Eddie and there is a wide selection from traditional full English, eggs benedict, (with eggs from their own free-range hens in the garden) to smoked haddock. There are cereals, yogurts, pastries, fruit juices and bread to toast - all on a help-yourself basis as well as a large range of teas, coffees and other hot drinks. Nothing is too much trouble and our only regret was that we could not stay for another week! Hopefully, though, it will not be long before we can return. If you are coming to Great Yarmouth look no further - stay at the White Lodge and experience it for yourselves!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 overlook the sea.

We had 2 double en-suite rooms here for the 15th &16th September, the rooms and bathrooms need to be seriously upgraded, the beds were too short and the duvets too small, the furniture in the room was old and needed changing.
The bathrooms needed new shower trays and showers and definately need new tiling to the walls and floors,no mechanical ventilation which I am surprised passes Building Regs, and the door from one en-suite opened directly onto the reception hallway which is not good practice as all farm yard noises were open to the ears of the general public,

The breakfast room tables had plastic table cloths, there was a tea urn in there to help yourself and you also had to make your own toast, although there was a selection of breads, cooked breakfasts were all good and a good selection and Jean was very friendly and helpful with directions to restaurants and booking.

There is no off road parking.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay with us.
We welcome constructive criticism and act on it where appropriate.
I am sorry to see you rated us as "terrible" particularly as your review has followed two hundred and nineteen "excellent" and nine "very good" reviews.
I will address your comments in order:
1. Our double beds are six feet 5 inches long and 4 feet 6 inches wide. That is a normal size for a double bed.
2. The duvets are full double size.
3. The furniture in room 10 is old, actually antique, and we purchased it specifically to match the decor in the room (1930s)
4. The furniture in room 2 is good quality modern design.
5. The shower tray in room 10 is a quality ceramic one and has no chips or scratches or indeed any other marks on it.
6. The shower tray in room 2 does have one mark on it which is not detrimental to its use.
7. All our showers are powerful and hot as they are run from a pressurised mains system.
8.The flooring in room 10 is 3 years old and is non slip vinyl. This has been fitted specifically in all our bathrooms as it is safer than tiled floors.
9. The flooring in bathroom 2 is 6 months old and is non slip vinyl.
10. The wall tiles in both bathrooms may not be to your choice or design but they are clean and in good condition.
11. Mechanical ventilation is not a building regulation requirement as the bathrooms are part of the original building and not additions. All 9 of our upstairs bathrooms have ventilation fans in them anyway and the one in room 2 is only 6 months old. We note that room 10 does not presently have a fan in but the windows are functional. We intend to add a fan to this bathroom in due time.
12. The vinyl table coverings in the breakfast room are used because they are easy to clean hygienically and because I actually thought they look nice! They are used in many establishments these days. This is after all, a breakfast room and not a Michelin starred restaurant. When we do serve evening meals, we use linen tablecloths and napkins so we do have correct standards of ettiquete . All our breakfast crockery is Royal Doulton and the cutlery is Arthur Price of England.
13. The tea urn you refer to is actually just a hot water boiler and enables our Guests to freely help themselves to the variety of drinks we have on offer.
14. I would happily have made your toast and drinks for you if you had asked me.
15. You made your booking with us through Booking.Com where the parking situation is clearly stated. "There is some free on street parking or you can request to park on the drive"
We are very fortunate to have the whole Crescent at our disposal for Guests to park on and you would have been more than welcome to park on our drivewayif you so wished.
I do not understand why you have awarded us only 2 out of 5 for cleanliness yet not qualified the reason for such a poor score ?
We have transformed The White Lodge in the 4 years we have been here. We are constantly striving to improve our Guests' experience and will continue to do so. The building is 90 years old so we also try to sympathetically maintain the character of the property whenever we make changes.
It would appear that we have failed in your case. Had we known that you were so unhappy with your stay, we would have gladly reimbursed you after your first nights' stay so you could have stayed elsewhere for your second night and not had to stay at The White Lodge any longer.
