The hotel is situated in a run down area of the town. There are no other hotels in the vicinity and many of the buildings nearby are unoccupied.
The brochure states that the hotel serves “plentiful food of the finest quality”. Although the quality on the first two days was satisfactory, we did not generally find this to be the case. Portions were always strictly controlled and the selection and quality was often very poor. We were often served with “Tesco” economy meals or food of low quality and given for cheapness, including items for breakfast eg sausages and beans.
Whilst the menu said, “butter” we were given margarine or similar.
The television aerial was faulty and this was not rectified during the course of the week. We did tell the proprietor on the second day, and although the television set was re-tuned, it did not work satisfactorily because the aerial was faulty.
Towels were grubby and bed linen smelt of tobacco smoke. The courtyard garden is very small and enclosed by high walls; it is used for both the drying of washing and smoking.
Our double room was barely big enough to fit a double bed – total size 8 feet by 10 feet approximately. There was additional area for toilet and shower. This part was of a reasonable size.
We would not recommend this hotel.
