Efficient friendly welcome. Stayed in Room 137. Very dowdy and badly in need of a makeover. Very basic. Clean but dated. Food good but very limited choice if arriving late in Restaurant. Good location. By far the worst Bay Hotel i've stayed in. Young Polish girl in Restaurant was excellent.

Room Tip: Definitely not 137

We have just returned from 8 days at the Carlton Hotel with Shearings. This hotel is in urgent need of a facelift. We were in room 323 on third floor. A nice big room but take a look at the window frames, filthy. The rubbish bin was just a "rust bucket" covered up with a plastic bag. Surely a cheap plastic bin would help . Food was average and only one piece of butter supplied per person , the fact that the waiter twice forgot about us as we were sitting right in the corner of the room did not help. The new look in the reception area consists of a dark grey paint on the fireplace and the reception desk, Colditz springs to mind. Come on Shearings, not a lot of cash needed to put these things right.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor as the floors creak with every step, pity the poor people on the floors below.

Thank you for your review I feel your review is quiet harsh, over the past year we have invested many thousands of pounds into the Carlton all of the public areas are refurbished. We also have an ongoing refurbishment plan in the bedrooms. I will certainly follow up all other comments.
Kind Regards

We had a lovely week at the Carlton, 9th-16th September, the hotel could do with modernising , but as far as i can see they are doing that bit by bit, we always have there best room 211 which is a nice size and with a sea view, its clean but i do think the room could do with a little sofa as the two chairs in there are not very comfy, and we do pay quite a lot more for that room, the food is very good there was plenty to eat, all the staff are very friendly, we were on a table of 6 the 3 ladys we met were lovely, we have all booked for the same time next year, we sat on table 30, and well what can i say about our waitress Nellie, she was lovely hope we have her next year, our daughter who was with us has an illness called ME, and Nellie was lovely with her, so thanks for making our holiday a good one, see you next year.

Room Tip: choose a seaview room.

If you want a hotel with a shortage of staff, lack of personality, and not a great deal of interest in their clients requirements, you should feel at home here. The food was good but only just adiquate and our upgraded room was not as good as we had had at other hotels in the group. The staff here need to pay more attension to the general age of their clientel and realise they need more from a holiday and not less..

Room Tip: Upgrade here seems to be a requirement

we had an enjoyable long weekend with national holidays. First impression of the hotel was of a nicely decorated reception. bar area and dinning room. But the corridors and the 2 single bedrooms which we had were in need of new carpets and a lick of paint. We were at the back with no views. the bathrooms were ok with bath and shower and the beds comfy maybe more attention to cleaning, There was a good choice of food on the menu which was cooked well, the staff were efficient and pleasant. The entertainment that we had on 2 nights was good especially the comedian and sociable compare. The hotel is on the front and is handy for everything, Think i would pay extra for sea view if i stayed again.

Room Tip: sea view on a higher floor

Just come back from the Carleton and very disappointed.

Bar / lounge has been turned into what looks like a cheap café...all the sofas that we used to spend time sitting in, reading the papers and enjoying a drink and chatting to others have gone.

Ordered the fish for dinner too and it was barely warm, gave up waiting for the sweet course to arrive.

Used to come here 3 or 4 times a years - no longer for us, now looking for somewhere else to stay.

First time away at this time of the year in March and on a coach holiday, hotel very friendly friendly, food adequate and excellent service. Breakfast was waiter service and you had a good choice of food. Evening Meal was also waiter service and a reasonable choice of food. Well worth returning as the hotel was in the process of being upgraded. I would recommend a Shearing holiday again at this hotel. It was just a shame the weather was so cold and it snowed. But it was the same everywhere. The Local where lovely and friendly people.
