“fairly average hotel”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Recently stayed at the Carlton to be honest its nothing special needs a face lift internally in the rooms at the back of the building also new stair carpets lift too small staff where friendly need more at meal times to deal with the amount of guests food was average but veg where bland and boiled to death the bar was a little pricey and lack of choice on lager available entertainment was not the best I have seen but also not the worse I think the worded thing was on the departure day we had to be on the coach for 8.45 yet the breakfast did not start until 8.00 had to wait a long time to get served so this meant the delay of departure which finally was 9.05
I would not reccomend this to any elderly who are less mobile due to the location of rooms at the back of the hotel which are some distance and hard to get to make sure you ask for a room on the first floor front location
Overall we had a pleasant time due to other company on our trip enjoyed the banter over a few pints and watching world cup
I honestly would not stay again its a little too far to go for something mediocre

Room Tip: Ask for front of hotel room 1 st floor other are tricky to get to

Thank you "Brillo pad" for your review, I will look into all your concerns, the hotel has had many improvements in its refurbishment programme and feel your comments a little harsh, but there is always room for improvement! I do hope you come to see us again and take a second judgement, which I know you will approve off.
Kind regards

Thank you Ian Butterworth for your review, sorry to hear about your rushed experience at breakfast, we do our best to make our guests as comfortable within our means and I will certainly look into all your concerns, we do actually open the restaurant at 0745hours on departure days and the stair carpet is being dealt with as I write, I do hope you return to the Carlton in the near future.

Stayed at THE CARLTON 30/6/14 to 4/7/14 I must say after staying at many SHEARINGS hotels this one is up there at the top. From when you first arrive check in is over in seconds.Get up to our room (231) what a delight when you walk in, it is spotlessly clean and smells lovely even with the window open.We found there was not a phone in the room, down to reception it was there within minutes. This is not a sea view room but if you look to the left out the window you can see the ships going in and out of the harbor. The food is very very good with a wide choice of meals every night, and if you ask you can mix meals.I cannot choose a member of staff because all are friendly and will do every thing they can to make your stay pleasant, nothing is to much trouble.I must give our drive MIKE a big thank you for a comfortable and safe journey A big thank you to everyone and we will see you again soon

Just returned (4July-7July ) from a 4 day break with National Holidays and stayed at this Grand Old Hotel . Its old so you get creaking Floorboards Etc but don't be put off by the Negative Comments its clean and Tidy our Room was 336 on the third floor it looked like it had just been re-furnished nice it was to but let down by a Bathroom that looked a little unfinished ie bit of mould in grout in tiles ( bleach and an old toothbrush will remove this ) plus plaster round the Light fitting falling off . The Food was Good just enough for me (not a big eater ) Staff all very Pleasant and polite couldn,t do enough for you even when they were rushed off their feet like Ants scurrying around . Didn't see much of the entertainment although told it was quite good . Drinks are bit Pricey though but you expect that from an Hotel . all in all aGood 4 day Break . Tea and Coffee provided in room our only moan was that the room and Bedding was to warm loads to keep the Kids amused on the Strip

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Sea-View bigger rooms but the back ones are quieter

Just spent a 5 day break with Shearings at this hotel. We had an upgraded room which was very clean and comfortable. The food was very good with a good choice. The staff were extremely helpful. Our waiter Jamie was so helpful and cheerful all the time nothing was too much trouble for him. The hotel is right on the seafront with great views. The entertainment was very good as well. All in all a great stay.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor they have good views.

just returned from a 3 night stay with National Holidays, this hotel has a fantastic location for sea front and shopping, our room was one of the older rooms but was very clean and had all facilities that we needed, I understand that this hotel is undergoing a refurbishment as some of the rooms have been modernised as has the bar and other areas of the hotel which look lovely, staff here could not be more pleasant, helpful and polite, Micky the assistant manager in particular, food was very good and nothing was too much trouble for the dining room staff, who might I add work extremely hard, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Great Yarmouth, the only BIG downside which did not affect me personally was that their is no disabled access, which I can't see being a problem to sort out with a ramp, otherwise a great stay overall.

Room Tip: worth paying a little extra for a sea view

First the good , Fab location overlooking the seafront and the food was very good . Now the bad , our room was dated with OLD furniture and the regular smell of sewerage coming from our bathroom was disgusting .
