“Enjoyable stay....woof woof”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

Just had an enjoyable 4 night stay at the imperial. staff were always polite and helpful and albeit hotel and room are a little tired I feel this adds to the charm. Breakfast was really good each morning. This was our 2nd stay after 1st visiting in 2010 and both stays were on the whole enjoyable. Only negative was that the hotel now allows dogs and they were also allowed in dining area. My own opinion is that dogs shouldn't be allowed in 4 star hotels (should stick to guest houses) and certainly not in dining areas. That said the rooms were clean and we only had to complain about a dog barking once!

I stayed here for three nights recently and, despite its bathroom problems, I took greatly to the place. The Imperial is of some age now and it shows but that is part of its charm.

While the bedrooms are smaller than what a modern traveller might expect, the bigger problem for me was the 'shower over bath' contraption that was far too much of a trickle shower to be effective, especially with the hard, hard water of Great Yarmouth. I hope the management refurbishes with proper shower cubicles soon - and provides also proper shelving in the bathroom for one's toiletries.

To the rear of the hotel there is a smallish bar called 'Bar Fizz' for reasons that I simply cannot imagine. This is a sedate, leather-chaired bar that shuts the world out and suited me down to the ground. It was all to easy to relax there every night before dinner in The Terrace and drink perhaps more than might be beneficial. To their great credit, the hotel offers the traditional Scottish measure of 35ml at a very reasonable price.

The food was first-class and, together with a very pleasant staff, this was a very enjoyable stay overall.

Room Tip: The front rooms have superb sea views but, overlooking the main street of Great Yarmouth, that mig...

i have just got back from a few days in Yarmouth staying at the imperial hotel there i had a room with a sea view which was lovely, the staff are very helpful & friendly the food is also very good my only criticism would be that the fried bread with the english breakfast was to hard & the sausage could have done with a bit longer but it was edible & i will definately go back there again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have sea views.

We have no summer holidays planned this year and to break up the long slog to our break in the fall we decided to take a Friday off of work and head to the seaside. Having chosen Great Yarmouth, the Imperial Hotel came up so well in the reviews that we didn't look any farther.

We decided to splash out a bit on one of the Deluxe Wine Themed Rooms and hoped we might get lucky and get one of the two with a balcony. We did and it was a lovely room (Ruinart) and having the balcony and sea view was wonderful for our very short break.

All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and helfpul. We had no issues at all but felt that if we had they would have been dealt with quickly.

The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was lovely (and may have finally moved our 'we really need to have our bathroom redone' conversations beyond conversation and into actual action as we have inspiration now), great shower with excellent water pressure, the toiletries high quality. Having a mini refrigerator in the room was a very nice touch.

We ended up opting for room service and sat out on our balcony looking out at the sea which was an extra special part of our very short stay. The food was very good and very fairly priced.

The breakfast served in The Terrace was also a treat. The coffee was particularly good (something that is not always the case). Our hostess and waitress were both lovely and the menu extensive enough to have something to suit just about anyone. Having breakfast looking out to the sea was a lovely end to a very relaxing if very short time here.

We would recommend this hotel to those staying in the area and really though that the upgraded rooms were worth the additional cost.

Room Tip: The wine themed room made our stay seem extra special.

We were out for an afternoon walk and came across this hotels restaurant. The menu looked nice so we popped in for Brunch. Had soup and main and we had nothing but praise, so a few days later we returned for a late lunch and again the top notch chef produced. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only downside we found was in the cheeseboard, we could only describe the selection, especially the biscuit selection, as very sparse. The staff were all smart, efficient and helpful. would certainly return.

Room Tip: Only utilised this Hotels Restaurant.

I have recently visited this hotel for food only as it is quite local to where I live. Sunday lunch and dinner in Café lunch. Dinner was to celebrate my birthday. Each time the food was really excellent. The Executive Chef's motto, don't fuss with the food, let the quality shine through, is certainly very true. The service is just as it should be. The customer is made to feel very welcome; it certainly also was on my birthday. Full afternoon tea can be taken in the terrace restaurant, and on a fine day, there are lovely sea views as this restaurant is in an elevated position. It is also terrific value which includes two types of sandwiches (one is asked if the choice is acceptable at time of ordering), a selection of miniature cakes, pastries, etc and a large scone (their own very delicious and unique recipe) with cream and jam. Tea or coffee are also included. All for a very reasonable £9.50! Very nicely presented as one would expect from an hotel of 4 star rating. The service again is just perfect. It is certainly a lovely, welcoming experience to eat at this hotel, and I would add they certainly made my birthday a truly lovely day.

Room Tip: I have not booked a room as I am not local, but I should think those with a sea view are lovely.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel.

We had 2 king size bedded single rooms with side view to the sea. They were quiet and clean but the furnishings a bit old fashioned and tired. My room had 3 different seats all covered with different fabrics which just looked a bit sad to me.

The beds were so large that they took up most of the room but they were lovely and comfortable and made for a good night's sleep.

The guest supplies - in the bathroom and the teas/coffees/shortbreads in the rooms were all of a high standard and in plentiful supply.

The highlights of this hotel, without a doubt are the wonderful staff who were all very service orientated and most obliging and the quality of the food. The breakfasts which are served at the table are amongst the best i have had at an hotel and the egg benedict was absolutely superb!

We did have a dinner in the Terrace one evening but, unfortunately there was a table of very loud revellers at the next table who thought it cool to make sure everyone within 200 metres would be able to hear every word they said. It was not pleasant and ruined what would have been a delicious meal. Obviously this is not the hotel's fault that such people get into the place but it really put a damper on the evening.

All in all we had a great time at this hotel and if we were in Great Yarmouth again would probably make this our hotel of choice.

Room Tip: Sea view or side sea view rooms are great
