“Fabulous location and wonderful friendly staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012 via mobile

This hotel was probably amazing in its heyday! It's just a bit tired and could do with a total refurb... That aside the friendly attentive staff ( Lucas was superb) more than made up for it! The room, although a bit dated was spotlessly clean with crisp white bedding. The evening entertainment was hilarious with a singer ( who appeared to be a bit drunk) engaging with the audience! A great night. We would definatley stay again

My husband and i are just back from a 5day holiday at the st. george, we had a fantastic time there, all the staff especially lucus and peter are brilliant, i emailed peter to ask if it was possible to have a nice big family room although there were only two of us , that wasnt a problem so the george do listen to peoples requests, the hotel is in a brilliant location with the prom just round the corner and the sea, the hotel itself is away from the buzz of gt yarmouth and is very quiet which we loved, the food is lovely and hot and had plenty of variety, okay this hotel isnt 5star but if your only sleeping in the rooms then its comfy enough, i think though its in need of a wee paint, but as we were coming away on saturday the painter was already on the roof , the entertainment at night was also very very good and we took in a show one of the nights aswell, the other thing was the heating , i dont think they had it on at all and one night we were getting a little chilly but again no problem i went down to see peter and i had a little fan heater up in the room within 10mins

Again its not the ritz but the ritz wouldnt give the service the st georges give, so please dont read all the nasty comments, go see for yourself, we had a great time

For £200 bed breakfast and evening meal for 5 days you cant beat the value

Room Tip: Please ask for family room if there are one available just ask the hotel

we stayed for a 3 night break fri to mon i will be very honest with my review
If you are expecting 5 star think again this is a cheap hotel break and you get what you pay for ...
the staff work very hard but very under staffed they do all the cleaning serving cooking etc ..the rooms are 2 star need a complete doing up but i do be-leave they have started to up date some rooms the sheets and towels were clean, rooms cleaned in a hurry so yes dust etc ..plus you cant really clean the old carpets ..very creaky floors so you can hear people walking about also hear them talking in there rooms like a normal house ,,,breakfast is served at 9 which is 2 bacon one sausage egg beans tomatoes and half slice of fried bread plus slice of toast that was 1st day as only 8 of us second day more people so one slice of bacon and quarter piece of fried bread ,,,, tea is the cheapest tea bag so take your own cereal available also and coffee plus juices ,staff are running around to get it out and very quick ..dinner is basic and all fried ie,,roast potato veg are frozen not fresh but all ok .. entertainment is like all hotels have so enjoy or go some where else ,,i would use this hotel again as it was a very cheap weekend you get what you pay for and we did ...........

Room Tip: ask for a up graded room

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel as part of a coach holiday. The whole hotel is in need of a refurbishment. The carpets on the stairs and landing is dirty and thread bare. Our room, though small was clean with a strange combination of different patterned bedding. The furniture was old and tatty, though the mattress was spotless. The food was also poor quality and quantity. On a positive note our waitress was brilliant, she was, as were all the staff, very hard working. We won't be visiting again and we won't be going on a coach holiday again, we were twenty years too young!!!!

Room Tip: Apparently there are rooms that have been refurbished - ask for one of them!

We stayed for 4 nights here as part of a coach holiday, the hotel itself is being updated slowly which is needs badly. the rooms themselves are fairly small with a adaquite bathroom, but again need seeing too.what really lets this place down is the food, esp the breakfast. very small portions with a bacon subsitute & the smallest eggs I have ever seen & cordial instead of proper o.j. the evening meals are a little better but again so small that we went out for take away 2 of the nights we stayed.the staff which seemed all to be Latvean, worked hard to keep things going & are a credit to the hotel.there are better places to stay, the Bay Hotel is just round the corner, but with a little TLC & money spent in the right places, this hotel could be so much better.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room

Stayed at the hotel for a week with Caladonian travel . We were lucky , I think we had one of the updated rooms the beds were very comfortable and clean but unfortunatly thats about as good as it gets. the shower didnt work when we got there but it was fixed as soon as we reported it. The rim of the toilet bowl was disgusting, the dirt was ingrained on the skirtings, the carpets were newish but dont think they had ever seen a hoover. plenty of drawer and cupboard room. the stair carpets were very stained , we were told they had only been down a year. Breakfast was ok as long as you didnt look for bacon .Choice of cereal ,grapefruit, prunes and juice.Scrambled eggs were good. Dinner was very hit and miss not a lot of choice, two mains or a salad .One sweet choice or ice cream and peaches every night. Portions wern't very big ,not enough for a mansize appetite. The entertainment at night was olso a bit hit or miss .Sure the guy on the first night had had a bit to much to drink .The one saving grace of the whole week were the staff, all of them were brilliant and friendly and fun. I woudn,t recommend it and will not be giving it a second chance. Dont know why the bus companies still use it.

Room Tip: try another hotel

Although the staff work very hard they have an uphill struggle with this old building. Some people on our coach party seemed to have good rooms but others like myself and my wife had the worst hotel room we have ever known (Room 307). due mainly to old and clapped out furniture, the place needsa lot of money spent on it. There was no view except for a skip and some unsightly concrete back yards. As we booked with Caledonian Travel on their 10% discount day perhaps we were marked out as cheapskates and deliberately given a bad room who knows, you get what you pay for and it was a cheap holiday.

Room Tip: Be prepared to ask for a good room and pay a little more.
