We have just got back from a weeks holiday here and we all had a lovely time.
We had paid for a 2 bedroom Thurne caravan but were upgraded to a brand new, 3 bedroom Hemsby caravan which was spotless! (thank you very much Parkdean). Finally, after a few years of being disappointed on holidays, we could just relax and enjoy ourselves. It was such a relief to be in a place where everything worked and everything was clean, and I mean the actual holiday park too.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the entertainment staff were great with our 2 year old. They all remembered his name and really made him feel welcome. He loved Sid & Lizzie, although their patter pretty much went over his head. Their jokes are aimed at an older crowd, but he just loved the fact that he was being entertained and could boogie the night away.
The soft play area was a godsend, although a little small. If Parkdean were ever to spend money on improvements, I would like to suggest extending this area.
Unfortunately, as most of the kids had gone back to school, the park was rather quiet. The crazy golf was shut and it was too cold to use the outside pool, so after a few days in the park, we got a little bored towards the end of our stay. I'm sure in the height of season and when the sun was shining, it would have been a different matter.
I read earlier reviews saying the food was very expensive in the restaurant, and so was not intending to eat there, but it was actually average priced. A child's meal was about £4 with a drink included, and the adult meals were between £8 and £13. We pay this when we go anywhere for a meal, so we were quite happy to pay this here. The food was actually very tasty and the menu varied enough to stop us getting bored with it.
The price of drinks is quite high though. A small glass of wine, a pint of lager and a bottle of water was nearly a tenner. Needless to say, we only ever had one or two drinks a night and just waited til we got back to the caravan and had a drink then.
All in all, we will definitely holiday with Parkdean again, but I think we will try a livelier resort next time. I've got my eye on Trecco Bay.
