Wild Duck Holiday Park - Haven

Reviewed 17 June 2014

We visited Wild Duck in May half term 2014, myself, my mum and my 2 young children. The caravan was fabulous, clean and spacious and the surroundings just beautiful, we particularly liked the tree house area. I thought that the staff were all great, helpful with a good sense of humour which was necessary as it poured with rain most days!! My only gripe would be the food, it was really mediocre and very expensive. The fish and chips in particular was extortionate and as we saw a delivery of frozen goods being made to there, the price was not justified as the food was very poor quality. The onsite supermarket was predictably expensive but a quick trip to Tescos in the village soon negated the need to get anything there! The bar food also was expensive (£25 for 4 sandwiches?!) and dull - tasteless with very little garnish etc. I live in London so I am used to paying high prices but these shocked me.

We really appreciate your feedback and we are delighted you enjoyed your caravan here at Wild Duck Holiday Park. I’m looking forward to passing your kind comments on to our ‘superb’ team today, as they all love to receive a pat on the back from our guests.
I am sincerely sorry that your holiday, which clearly started on a positive note, failed to deliver in all areas.
Our pricing and menu product range is calculated centrally and apologise on this occasion that you felt you did not receive value for money. I can only hope that you choose to return to the Wild Duck in the future and allow us the opportunity to exceed your expectations.
Kind Regards

Due to having a tent and wanting to make most of the weekends now we booked a last minute break to wild duck in great yarmouth , we last stayed here some 7 years ago in a caravan . On arrival we immediately noticed all the improvements to the entrance to the park. a very nice clean and modern reception building with a good sized carpark. booked in at reception and was greated warmly and welcomed to the park. usual run through facility and security passes we got directed to follow the road round and await for the camp park warden to show us to our pitch. The lady was very helpful and offered us several pitches to choose from but not actually seeing them was hard to choose , with this in mind we followed the warden to various locations and we settled on a nice pitch towards the back of the site near some trees. all the pitch areas had good distance between them and even though it was very busy with tents and caravans mixed in enough space was allowed to breath. The ground is very uneven in places and well worn so alot of dirt patches, i wasnt keen to pitch the tent on the dirt so moved tent over slightly which i discovered i had then eaten into the next pitch dooh, the warden came and had word and i did offer to move accross but she was very understanding of my reasons and due to fact we was only staying two nights she was happy to alllow us to stay put . facility wise the park has had some serious money spent on it , with new shop, pool entrance, restaurant , and a nice feature water course running in the middle with a bridge over it , the entertainment has really took a nose dive for the children side, used to have a good charactor show but this has been cut back massively to a few years back which is a shame, live acts superb if you can hear a word they are singing, why o why do they insist on belting the volume up to near earplug required levels. i have no objections and enjoy a good volume belter but kids covering ears kinda gives a clue its far to loud. ok so they have improved alot here and we did enjoy our stay and will go back again but will be more camp orientated and use pool and try to self cater a bit better ..
now the minus parts we felt the shop was very over priced compared to park resort shops (owned by haven !!!) the restaurant was restricted menu and a little pricey again compared to park resorts where you can get meal deals, only offer was to get a 25% discount if you eat before 5 ????? site vacate time is a little mean being 10am on the last day but i dare say thats a little flexible . best advice is make sure you pack insect repellents as the trees and river at back house these little bitters lol oops we forgot ours . take basic provisions . the washing up facility is excellent as is the chemical toilet collection area , showers are also very good housed in a new building well maintained.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. We are very proud of the improvements that have been made to our park over the last few years and it’s lovely to hear our guests appreciate the changes.
Our touring warden Debbie, cleaning team George and Lyndsey work so hard to keep the facilities immaculate and our guests happy, so it’s great to hear your kind comments.
We are sorry to hear that you seemed to have missed the character welcome shows that are on at 7.30pm on a Monday and Friday, and there is also Seaside Squad shows on at 7.30pm the other nights of the week. I will speak to the Entertainments Manager regarding the noise level in the Live Lounge, we have a limiter for our equipment but when the Live Acts bring their own equipment its not controlled by this. We want our guests to enjoy the entertainment and not have to wear earplugs or the children to be covering their ears.
We were surprised to read your comments about our Spar shop as the prices should be the same as any Spar store in the UK, especially for the basics so we will check up on this. We do stock a range of local produce too which as you can expect may cost a little more, maybe this is the what you are referring to?
A few years ago we changed our menu’s and supplies to improve the quality of the food we offer all our meat now comes from a butchers rather than a wholesalers so the prices have increased a little but we now think the food we served is worth the extra.
One final thing and we hope you don’t mind us correcting you, but we wanted to let you know Park Resorts isn’t part of Haven........ They started over 10 years ago when they bought a number of Havens smaller parks, but they aren’t linked to us.

We booked a Sun Holiday for a weekend and upgraded to a deluxe caravan. We loved the site and had a brilliant holiday. Due to the sunny weather my kids aged 7 and 8 loved the outdoor pool. All of the staff we met were very friendly and everything was spotless. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back. Go to Gorleston for the stunning beach...

Fantastic holiday park, on arrival all the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, we were shown to our pitch and offered 1 of 2 areas to set up. The toilet facilities were beyond excellent, always clean and tidy and smelt clean and fresh at all times, food was very good although slightly dear compared to some places we have stayed, lacked adult entertainment but great for kids, no problems with dogs on site, they were all extremely well behaved, lots of wildlife roaming around all day and night. Would most definitely return and recommend.

Caravan lovely and spotlessly clean. Location brilliant for us. Relaxed and peaceful atmosphere around the park. Clean. Indoor pool lovely but we preferred the outdoor one as it's warm whatever the weather and so nice to swim in the fresh air, feels more like a holiday! Life gaurds all very welcoming and attentive, offering cushions to everyone for the sun beds. Loved the duck joining us for a swim this morning before we had to leave! All staff friendly and helpful and non intrusive or pushy. Fun Stars (especially Stuart!) are once again really hard workers and you can't help but join in the fun. We really didn't want to leave this morning. It's a real little escape. Good fun trying to find the tree house. Thanks for a lovely holiday. We definately want to come back.

Room Tip: We were away from the main centre and near the out door pool. Perfect.

This is the second time we have stayed at Wild Duck and loved it even more this time. From the moment of arrival we were made to feel really welcome by a lovely lady on reception.

We stayed in a wonderful platinum caravan, privately owned but hired through haven. The only downside in the caravan was the TV was tiny and there was no remote control so we were unable to use the TV guide function etc. apart from that we couldn't fault the caravan.

The site is lovely and small, swimming pool nice and quiet so perfect for our 3 year old. Our 3 year old loved the entertainment in the evenings and I thought the entertainment staff were very good.

Out and about we visited Yarmouth, the sealife centre and gorleston, the beach at gorleston is fantastic and well worth a visit.

We will be back in the future for another break!

Room Tip: The platinum caravans are excellent, modern and spacious.
