“Hogmanay Special”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

Stayed here for three day Hogmanay special and thoroughly enjoyed. Room in the extension at the back of the hotel was comfortable with good facilities. Two easy chairs in the room so one of us did not have to sit on the bed. Food was excellent
The hotel specializes as a center for birdwatchers and wildlife in general.
The only downside from our perspective is it is a dog friendly hotel and not everyone appreciates dogs everywhere. However the one incident of disturbance was dealt with immediately by the manager with no repetition. A friend stayed in main building and had a problem with lack of hot water for washing and shower, so worth checking with reception before hand.

I was invited with my 11 year old daughter to spend Christmas here with my parents. We had a fantastic four night stay from 23rd to 27th December over the Christmas period. David and his staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Our room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed. The food ..... well what can I say ... it was excellent! Three and four courses for the main meals with plenty of choice (and imaginative vegetarian options - not the obligatory "Nut Roast"!!); something for all the family. They even provided Ice Cream for my daughter when none of the desert options were to her liking. Breakfast provided the same excellent choices, and if you had room there was lunch and afternoon tea served (which definitely catered for those with a sweet tooth).
Christmas Eve included the full presenting and 'addressing' of the Haggis with David reciting "Ode to the Haggis" perfectly and a party atmosphere for Christmas Lunch, complete with David as a bagpipe playing Father Christmas to round the meal off.
The programme of events included a wide variety of films; "Local Hero", "March of the Penguins" and of course "White Christmas". During the day, as this is a Wildlife Hotel, there were organised walks run by the BWWC and also a trip to see the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd. Not forgetting to mention the well stocked library of fiction and non-fiction books, copious quantities of information leaflets and a good range of DVDs. Entertainment for all.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you David & staff for a great stay.

We had a wonderful four nights stay at The Grant Arms Hotel over Christmas. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and comfortable and kept very clean. The whole hotel looked cared for.The food choice was always varied, plentiful and well presented. The organization, particularly on Christmas Eve,was excellent. The BWWC staff were on hand to provide information. It is a wonderful location for bird watching. The Manager was frequently to be seen around, greeting and helping.I can't rate the pool or fitness centre as I did not use them.

We're just back from spending the most marvellous and memorable stay at the Grant Arms Hotel at Hogmanay. We can't thank all the wonderful staff and lovely guests for making it such a fantastic celebration. As always, all the staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive to make this the perfect stay. The wonderful wildlife on the doorstep helped complete the trip. We've stayed at the Grant Arms many times before and will definitely be back again this year, there's simply no better place to stay in Scotland!

We arrived at the hotel and were warmly welcomed by all the staff, they all worked so hard to make our break memorable in which they succeeded. As well as being a very attractive building, the hotel was kept spotless at all times. The food was good and well presented with an acceptable number of choices and something to suit most people. The BWWC facilities were very good and there was always someone around for help. We will certainly be staying again. Best wishes to David and his team for 2014.

We took our daughter and granddaughter (aged 11) to this hotel for Christmas and, despite there being no other children, all the staff "went the extra mile" to make her feel welcome. Everyone connected with the hotel was very welcoming and all worked so hard to make the break memorable in which they succeeded. As well as being a very attractive building, the hotel was kept spotless at all times. The food was good and well presented with an acceptable number of choices and something to suit most people - if not, the chef was always able to provide something different. We can't recommend the hotel highly enough and will certainly stay again.

This was our fourth visit to this wonderful hotel - our first with close friends, and also our first time in the winter months. If you are undecided whether to visit during the winter - then dither no more! We decided to take a walk in the local Anagach Woods on arrival and within the first hour we had seen a crested tit, treecreeper and red squirrels.
The next day we enjoyed a local walk with John, a local guide and part of the BWWC team. We had not explored that part of the area before and we saw dipper, great spotted woodpecker & more squirrels with him in the morning, then in the afternoon we met him again at Burghead where we saw red breasted merganser, gannet, eiders, turnstone, red shank and long tailed duck – a first for me! All part of the service! In the evening we visited the Speyside Wildlife Hide and saw a badger, three mice and the object of desire…… a pine marten – also another first for me. What a day!
The next day found us in the Findhorn Valley and within a minute of parking we viewed a golden eagle, female hen harrier, buzzards and had a very close encounter with a red kite. We spotted red deer on the hillside as well as the local feral mountain goats.
Add to that the warm welcome, fantastic staff and comfort of this lovely hotel and you have a wonderful recipe for chilling and opting out of all the mayhem that pre Christmas can bring. We feel thoroughly relaxed and ready to face Christmas now.
Thanks to David and his team of helpful, friendly staff. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2014 when we will be back for sure!
