“A First Visit”
Reviewed 12 October 2010

A great deal of money has obviously been spent on this hotel, with a great deal of success. An old hotel has been transformed into a modern oasis.

The rating of sleep quality has been slightly reduced due to the squeeky floorboards in the room above.

I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone, the difficulty being if recommended too often I might be unable to get a reservation for myself.

The staff are as friendly as I have found in any hotel.

As a wheelchair user I was concerned visiting an older hotel. I should not have worried. The room was well planned and the manager asked a number of times if there was anything else they could do to improve it. The food was 5 star every evening. The hotel is known as the Birdwatchers Hotel and the knowledge of the staff was outstanding. The only thing they couldn't do anything about was the rain. We will certainly be going back again and again.

Great resource for wild life enthusiasts. Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Excellent restaurant but very good cooking spoilt by swamping food in the accompanying sauces. Bedroom lacked sufficient drawer space for two people staying a whole week. The bathroom mirror was located on the wall opposite the hand sink, which made life hard for a "wet" shaver like me. Water in the basin seeped away because of illfitting or worn plug necessitating constant topping up. Old wooden window frames in the bedroom rattled in the strong winds that often blow in that location.

Had a two night break in this excellent hotel. Everything about this hotel is superb. The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. The bedrooms and public rooms are lovely. The food is delicious. Grantown is a delightful town, with lovely walks, masses to see and do in the immediate vicinity, as well as plenty to visit in the surrounding area. We will definately be back to this lovely hotel.

Had the pleasure of staying at this hotel - what a delight!
The atmosphere is wonderful - all smiles and friendliness - nothing is a problem.
My room was spotless and the bed, one of the most comfortable I've slept in.
The restaurant was excellent - attentive but non-intrusive staff, great food at both dinner and breakfast. The starter of Black Pudding on a bed of Rosti Potatoes was heaven!.
I stay in many hotels and this is certainly one of the best I've encountered.
So good in fact I've booked for Christmas!

This hotel is in the main street and has no problem with parking. The rooms have good quality furniture and comfortable beds. Everything, including the grouting in the shower, is spotless. The food is excellent and ;you can make changes to the menu if it is what you want. The staff are friendly and jocular and make you feel really welcome. Umbrellas were provided for us with a smile and trips recommended. We visit a lot of hotels and this is one of the best.

This is more an old folks home for birdwatchers than a hotel, Room cleanliness was hopeless should anything be dropped on the floor it would still be there the next day, don't think they have any vacuum cleaners and bed underneath the quilt exactly the same as when you got up. Televisions were very old fashioned and failed to work properly, the hotel lift was something out of the arc.
Restaurant staff were friendly and polite and the best thing about the hotel, food was also quite good.
