We selected Tulach Ard because we prefer our accommodation contemporary but comfortable and it did not disappoint. As other reviewers have said, Claire and Douglas are exemplary hosts - their enthusiasm for the area and its many attractions meant that we went to places we would not otherwise have visited (Speyside Cooperage, for example, which is fascinating and well worth the trip). Our bedroom was spacious, the beds comfortable and the bathroom immaculate, with a large built-in wardrobe for our use. We also had the use of the lovely downstairs open-plan area with a sunny patio area overlooking the garden, while Claire's breakfasts were a great way to start the day, with a variety of fruit, home-made jams in addition to the 'full English (or Scottish)! Grantown itself is in a great location for exploring the Cairngorms national park, close to the Loch Garten osprey centre (we actually walked back) and many other attractions - though the scenery itself is really the main one. My one disappointment with our visit, I complained to Douglas, was that I hadn't seen a red squirrel. So he told me where I could see one (and I did!) Many thanks, and we hope to return for a longer stay next year.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Quite magnificent find in Speyside! The accommodation was brilliant, clean and beautifully appointed. Three rooms with a lounge/diner and large kitchen satisfied the six of us beyond our expectations. Just like a small self contained house. Our hostess, Claire, was just superb and breakfast, including haggis, was not for the fait hearted, making lunch unnecessary! Her local knowledge was impressive and we really felt that we mattered. Top marks all the way. Hi, I'm Claire Mackenzie, owner of Tulach Ard House, Bed and Breakfast in delightful Grantown On Spey. I look forward to meeting you. ... more less
