“SO NICE!!”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

We were just driving by and luckily for us Claire had a room available (was just ironing the linens!) We felt right at home, Doug and Claire were so friendly, we felt like we had known them for years :) We were headed to the Isle of Skye and since that was where Doug was from, they told us all about what to go and see. Lovely breakfast. Would definitely recommend this B&B! Thanks so much Claire and Doug, all the best to you :)

From the moment of our arrival to our departure this top quality accommodation provided a relaxing, well suited base in the heart of the highlands of Scotland for our party of six people. We chose the self-catering package that enabled us to take advantage of eating in when it suited us and we were very pleased with the excellent and high standard fitted kitchen including dishwasher to clean-up after the meals. The rooms were modern and spacious and we really appreciated that each of the three bedroom had large walk-in wardrobes and well-fitted en-suite facilities. We found Grantown to be a charming village and our cheerful, friendly and relaxed hosts, Doug and Claire pointed out some of the things that we not have found easily such as woodland jogging and cycling trails, and a factory outlet for excellent prime Scottish steaks just a short walk away. We ate out a few nights in the town and the highlight was a private fine dining that we arranged with Michael and Sonia, the owners of Culdearn House, very nearby. We were blessed with excellent weather in July and we fully took advantage of the outside seating in the garden.
We all enjoyed our stay at Tulach Ard and would 100% recommend it to anybody looking for a base for a great holiday experience in Scotland.

Room Tip: All bedrooms are of good quality and are fited to a high standard, the bedrooms upstairs are slightl...

The rooms are very clean, the beds very comfortable and the en suite even had a bath which was fantastic ....

We planned our first weekend away with our 4 week old son (and 21 month son) and looked for family friendly accommodation. Tulach Ard did not disappoint. Claire and Douglas gave us a huge family room with private bathroom with bath and shower which was plenty of room for the four of us to enjoy comfortably and two armchairs to relax in! Nothing was too much trouble for our lovely hosts and we enjoyed our first night so much that we requested to stay on another night - fortunately the room was available! Breakfast was ample and delicious both the hot and cold versions. Claire kindly booked a table for us at the Garth pub and they had toddler seat set up for us on arrival. All in all a seamless weekend, even our 4 weeker slept the best he has so far! Big thumbs up, we'll be back if we can before we return to Australia.

Room Tip: Family room in main house has ample room for 2 adults, child in bed and child in cot.

We selected Tulach Ard because we prefer our accommodation contemporary but comfortable and it did not disappoint. As other reviewers have said, Claire and Douglas are exemplary hosts - their enthusiasm for the area and its many attractions meant that we went to places we would not otherwise have visited (Speyside Cooperage, for example, which is fascinating and well worth the trip). Our bedroom was spacious, the beds comfortable and the bathroom immaculate, with a large built-in wardrobe for our use. We also had the use of the lovely downstairs open-plan area with a sunny patio area overlooking the garden, while Claire's breakfasts were a great way to start the day, with a variety of fruit, home-made jams in addition to the 'full English (or Scottish)! Grantown itself is in a great location for exploring the Cairngorms national park, close to the Loch Garten osprey centre (we actually walked back) and many other attractions - though the scenery itself is really the main one. My one disappointment with our visit, I complained to Douglas, was that I hadn't seen a red squirrel. So he told me where I could see one (and I did!) Many thanks, and we hope to return for a longer stay next year.

I stayed here for a ski trip in Feb. Claire who runs tulach Ard is by far the most helpful and friendliest person I have ever come across. This is a new build property so the building overall is very modern and comfortable. Claire was up every morning at 7am to cook our breakfast to our exact liking, and I can speak on behalf of my family I stayed with that she made us feel so welcome.
You hear about people who go out of their way to please people and exceed the boundaries of what is expected, well this is a fine example. I've never wrote any reviews on any hotels or b&B's but I felt this is one which needs to recognised for its superb service. Already wanting to go back for next year's ski trip.

Thanks Claire,

Peter, Ron, Tony & Reece.

We've been travelling around Scotland for almost three weeks now and the stay at Tulach Ard is the best thing that's happened to us. The B&B's location is ideal to explore the many places of interest in the region including Aviemore and the stunning Cairngorms. Lot of possible activities for kids and adults alike (hiking, biking, amazing steam train, reindeer farm, folk museum, etc.). We particulalry appreciated a very warm welcome from our hosts. Not only they gave us very helpful advices about places to visit but the entire stay was more like a stay at friends' house. We definitely recommend Tulach Ard to all those who'd like to see Scotland at its best.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Quite magnificent find in Speyside! The accommodation was brilliant, clean and beautifully appointed. Three rooms with a lounge/diner and large kitchen satisfied the six of us beyond our expectations. Just like a small self contained house. Our hostess, Claire, was just superb and breakfast, including haggis, was not for the fait hearted, making lunch unnecessary! Her local knowledge was impressive and we really felt that we mattered. Top marks all the way. Hi, I'm Claire Mackenzie, owner of Tulach Ard House, Bed and Breakfast in delightful Grantown On Spey. I look forward to meeting you. ... more   less
