“Really nice lunch”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

Took my mother out for lunch on 21/10/11 and found this really nice restaurant. It is at the far end of Grantown as you come from Aviemore. The decor is warm, welcoming just the way a country hotel should be. The staff very friendly, polite and looking if they enjoyed there job. The service was very efficient and at your pace. Nice big tables so plenty room for all dishes, drinks etc. We were asked more than once if every thing was alright. Big portions. I felt, for myself, the bread crumbs on the fish was just to crispy. It looked a nice place to stay, but with it being an old building the floors are at some nice angles. I will go again. Great value

We enjoyed our stay at The Garth Hotel. It may lack a little in modernity but it represents good value both for the accommodation and the restaurant. The food was good quality, the room was comfortable, if a little cold, but what stood out for us was the staff. They were really warm and welcoming from the cleaners, to the waiting staff, to the manager.....whilst still carrying out their jobs efficiently and professionally. Certainly worth a visit if you're around Speyside.

Recently stayed at the Garth for the first time and had a really nice time. The hotel is an old building and has lots of character but our room was modern and well equipped, with a particularly comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean but perhaps starting to show its age, although the shower was fantastic. Had a peaceful sleep despite some minor noise disturbance due to thin walls. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast and found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. All in all, a pleasure to stay here and Grantown and the surrounding area are lovely to visit .

My mother chose this hotel for her birthday lunch having attended a lunch with another party previously. Food was excellent, atmosphere very relaxing, service was friendly and efficient. Good choice menu, quality freshly prepared food, large pots of coffee served with freshly baked shortbread to finish. We were late due to home emergency but nothing was too much trouble. Would definately return here - probably to stay as well.

My husband and I wanted somewhere comfortable and easygoing that served good food for a short break. I was crossing my fingers it wouldn't have dodgy 80s decor. The Garth was excellent on all counts. There is a tartan theme but it's relatively subtle, the decor was fresh and up to date, the bed comfortable, the bathroom spotless and the shower very powerful. We went for a dinner, bed and breakfast deal and I thought the food was excellent (venison night one; trout night two). My husband, a veggie who doesn't eat cheese, was a bit harder to please, but even he thought the food was good (there was a separate veggie menu - brilliant). Breakfasts were generous and offered imaginative choices (including pancakes). The staff were friendly and relaxed. From our hotel, it was a short jog to Aonach woods where we were able to go running both nights we stayed. My husband would have liked the room to be a bit bigger and to have a DVD player, but that didn't bother me. I'd thoroughly recommend the place.

Room Tip: We got a ground floor room - perhaps the rooms upstairs are bigger.
