Garth Hotel & Restaurant

My wife & I have just enjoyed a week in the Highlands staying in Grantown on Spey. We called in the Garth on the off chance of getting an evening meal and although they were busy they managed to get us in. We enjoyed our meal, the service and the piper who entertained us for about an hour walking past the restaurant outside. It quickly became 'our local' and we enjoyed 3 other evenings there. We booked in for the Italian menu evening, however this meal was disappointing hence my rating of 4. Stick with what you're good at, good honest well cooked pub/restaurant grub. Well worth a visit, and try the local Cairngorm ale, excellent.

We took a few days break to an area of Scotland that we know and love and while we have not stayed in the hotel in the past we have dined there on many occasions. Our stay was arranged at short notice and we received very favourable B&B terms.
The hotel has a degree of rustic charm and to reach our bedroom we had to go up a flight of steps and there were further steps to negotiate along the corridor. Being an old building we found the treads on the steps were such that some care had to be exercised. The room we were allocated was quite adequate, clean and suited our requirements. However on the down side it faced the fairly busy main road and with the warm weather we needed to keep a window open overnight so our sleep suffered with the traffic noise.
The breakfast provided all the sustenance needed too fortify one for the day, but a word of caution to the staff do not bring a cooked breakfast before guests have finished eating their cereal - this happened repeatedly. Dinner menu was quite extensive and we had no problem with the quality of the fare - we found portion size could be reduced.
Staff were pleasant and helpful and it was service with a smile.

Room Tip: Take a room away from the main road

Right in the centre of the highlands, very pleasant hotel with restaurant and small pub. Staff are right up to the best in Scottish friendliness and hospitality. Relief from Avimore, as this is a quiet town with local style amenities. Near the major distilleries, Restaurant is great! very good food and informal service. Need to book, as it seems to be pretty busy. Breakfast are immense and very tasty. Rooms are older but clean and nicely decorated. Ensuite bathrooms have been updated. They do packed lunches for hikers! Stayed an extra night because the place felt so comfortable.

Room Tip: A room in the back would be quiet, but we were on the front, overlooking the main street, and noise...

The team at the Garth did great job of providing accommodation for our guests and hosting our reception. The manager could not have done more to to make us all comfortable and welcome even driving one of our guests to our wedding venue some 10 miles away! We had a great time and I feel all at the Garth deserve a glowing review.

Room Tip: Room 11 has a four poster bed and over looks the village garden next door, quiet and only oe other r...

We stayed here early June and had a very pleasant experience. The room was modern, clean and the breakfast was lovely. I asked if I could have a vegetarian breakfast a few days before and I got a reply within 30 minutes saying that that would not be a problem. My husband had the full breakfast and he said it was very good. The hotel is near the museum and a short walk away from other pubs and restaurants. The River Spey walks are close-by and fantastic if you like walking or hiking.

Room Tip: We booked online and got 40% off.

Spent two nights in the Garth Hotel during a short break in Speyside. Clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff. Ate in the restaurant and had a lovely meal. On the second night we enjoyed a fish/chicken supper from the chip shop along the road.
Overall very satisfied with our stay. Would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here a few weeks ago, because we were looking for a hotel in the Cairngorms that took dogs. We were pleasantly surprised with the Garth. It looks a bit down-at-heel from the outside, but the room was clean and well-appointed. The bed was comfy (although we had a super king bed made out of two beds pushed together, and had to remind them to put a topper on it). They put us in a room near the back exit to the car park, which was really helpful for taking the dog out at night. The TV was tiny, and only had 5 channels, and the bathroom was a little dated, but in general, the hotel was warm, comfortable and very accommodating. The bar downstairs was great, and we could sit down there in the evening with the dog and taste all sorts of whiskies.

Room Tip: Dog owners may want to request room 18, with easy access to the grass outside.
