we arrive...shown to a superior room...supposedly renovated; by someone with poor taste!...no hot water in the bathroom...but a giant cobweb around the mirror...drinks before dinner in the lounge; warm would have been good!...to table at 8.10...starters at 8.40 and they were not good...by 9.30 still no main course...the only person around was a young lad who then told me the chef had been taken ill and there was a replacement chef who found the pressure difficult...pressure? for a 10 room hotel?...where were the owners, who live up the road?...where was some form of manager?...we retired for the night!
Warm water in the morning, hurrah!...full English please...oh, no sausages in the house...repeated all this to the lady manager who seemed surprised!...do they not talk to each other? So awful we were reduced to hysterical laughter!

Room Tip: wait until its been demolished and rebuilt!

Just back from our stay at Muckrach Lodge and couldn't recommend it highly enough. It has a really homely comfortable feeling about the place from the staff being very accommodating, the warm cosy bar with log fire and choice of dvds, books and games to play with and outstanding location with beautiful scenery.

Our room whilst small had everything and more that you would need. Loads of tea and coffee facilities, bathroom looked newly done and ample storage for hanging clothes and tv with dvd :) bed was extremely comfortable so had 2 great nights sleep with no disturbances.

As it is a lodge in the highlands I don't agree that it should be compared to city hotels and feel it truly deserves its 4 star rating. Its exactly how a highland lodge should be and was well above my expectations.

We didn't dine in the restaurant but it looked nice and we had breakfast in the morning which had everything you would want and more from a wide selection of teas, fruit, cereals and hot food (which is locally sourced).

Two nights just wasn't enough so we are already planning our return :)

Thanks Muckrach Lodge for giving us a great weekend :)

We spent a 2 day break, and was a bit disappointed, this hotel had good points and bad points, this was a voucher deal, and we could not complain about the deal value offered, the breakfasts were first class great choices and very well cooked , in fact better than any of the big hotels I have visited in the past, the staff were very friendly and polite and could not do enough for you, so well done them, the hotel was a tired and in need of some care and attention and our room was tiny but clean and tidy although again requiring an update ( although I do sympathise with the owners in respect it is a bit isolated and suspect they need more paying customers) Dinner was mixed reviews with my wife stating hers was very good however mine's was overcooked and a little disappointing, the only major downside to me was bar prices which were way overpriced for an establishment outside the big cities, with £6 for a liquor and £2 for a small soda water I thought it was a bit over the top , so maybe their bar would be busier if they looked at the prices, however it is great place to relax in the quietness and read a book etc, I wish the hotel well and hopefully they can sort out a few of the small points in the future,at the end of the day there were lots of good things I liked so please give it a try

Room Tip: ask for a bigger room, they are a helpful team and you might be lucky, take a bottle of wine with yo...

Breakfast was very good and the staff hospitality was certainly the highlight of our stay. However the bed was uncomfortable, the room was tiny considering the price we paid and it was the most expensive accommodation in our 2 month trip overseas (not including Paris and London)..for a destination not on a major tourist route!!
Rating your accommodation 4 star you have to be ahead of the pack. This hotel certainly was not in this category. I believe if it was rated 3 star with the prices accordingly we would have been satisfied.

We rate ourselves as three and a half star. If other websites want to rate us as four star then that is outside of our control.

I again visited Muckrach lodge because of the nice experience I had there last year. The atmosphere in this hotel is fantastic and the staff (who is a bit renewed) is just amazing. I only had breakfast there this time, but the breakfast was both cooked and presented perfectly. If I am nitpicking the black pudding was a tad to "dry", but that did not stop it from tasting excellent.
The bar was cozy as always and you could smell the intoxicating aroma of fresh wood that has been on the fire and the temperature was perfect to relax in.
As with last year, the internet connection there is not perfect but the staff was (again) more than helpfull to find a room that had good internet connection. If not there are excellent signal strength in the lounge and should not pose a huge problem for most people.
The special atmosphere created by a nice staff as well as the old buildings "soul" made for such an enjoyable experience that this is now shaping up to be my favorite hotel. I will for sure consider visiting it again just for the pure experience of being there.

Room Tip: Check internet connectivity for your room before booking if you don't want to use the lounge are...

Not a bard word to say about the lodge, the staff were lovely and the food was also fantastic. The lodge had a lovely homely & cosy feel with a log burning fire and lovely decorations throughout the lodge that made an impact on the lodge's "feel". It was quite easy to find to! It was a little cold, but it was bareable.

I received a voucher as a birthday gift for an overnight stay.
On arrivals we waiting 20 minutes before a member of staff appeared. The girl who checked us in was pleasant and showed us to our room, room 1.
On entering the room the first thing we notice is the curtains haging off the rail and a massive cobweb on the window.
The bathroom paint was chipping off the wall and cracked in other areas, clearly this was not bathroom paint that was used. There was a broken tile in the bathroom and a screw missing from the shower leaving it hanging from the wall.
Our double room turned out to be 2 single beds put together. The valance's were a mismatch.
Once settling in we spent the afternoon in the hotel bar area. the communal areas of the hotel were pleasant with a log fire and candles, but not what i would call 4*.
We booked into the hotel for dinner, the meal was nice but over priced.
On retiring for the night we discovered that the single beds were the worst we had ever slept in.
The mattress was just like lying on a bed of springs, it was the cheapest of cheap. Both my husband and myself lay awake with sore backs considering whether to just get up and leave as we both felt so bad.
As we lived 3 hours away we decided to stick it out.
We both awoke with back ache and feeling terrible with having had hardly any sleep due to bad quality beds.
Breakfast was ok.
When we checked out we told the girl how bad the room was and asked her to tell her manager and asked that the manager spends a night in room 1 to find out how bad it is, she said she was sorry.
We couldnt wait to get home after what we thought would be relaxing night away.
Once home i emailed the hotel to tell them about out stay, the owner is on holiday however the head housekeep emailed to apologise, i am now awaiting to hear from the owner.
We wont ever return.

Room Tip: Avoid room 1
