The abiding memory is of staying with Alan and Sylvia, being cherished and made to feel that our holiday enjoyment was really important to them: lovely conversations, excellent advice about local attractions, genuine interest in who we were and what we did. They are attentive without being fussy, and really good company; cultured, well-travelled people themselves and it is clear that they have thought about every aspect of the guests' experience at Brooklynn as if they were experiencing it. Whilst our bedroom was not over-endowed with space, there was a very comfortable guest lounge downstairs, which always seemed empty and was well-served with maps, local guide books and Alan's excellent photographs, as well as local art. (Our only real frustration was a weak and intermittent wi-fi signal - which was at least partly a valley-wide problem - if you need any significant downloading for holiday entertainment, then either go to a city or hope that Speyside catches up with newer technology.) The garden is lovely and large, with expansive lawns, outside furniture and hammock and a stream along the bottom - and stocked with fruit and vegetables which are likely (if you are lucky) to end up on your plate. The breakfast is really delicious, with fresh fruit and homemade yoghourt every morning and I never got any further than 'The Brooklynn' - a beautifully presented mound of scambled egg and smoked salmon on a circle of toast, sprinkled with parsley. If you are really lucky (this is available on quieter days) you can order a three-course dinner which rivals (probably exceeds) any restaurant within driving distance - starting with sherry and canapes in the lounge and leaving you very well fed and entertained. Brooklynn is licensed, has a good wine list - and, of course, the odd Malt Whisky (or Cognac if you prefer) to die for! We left feeling we'd made new friends and a home from home in Speyside.
