Well worth the visit. It was a terrible day out side , throwing it down with rain all day. So it was a lovely experience, and very informative looking round the Museum.

Thank Pene G

We went to this museum at a time when it was meant to be open and it wasn't! There also didn't seem to be any signs around that gave an explanation as to why it was closed. This happened in the middle of holiday season. Dissapointing.

Grantham Museum has been in the news recently and several news broadcasting vans have been parked outside from as far afield as Japanese TV as a result of the recent death of Grantham's most famous "daughter". Having realised that no one has written a review for this attraction, I thought it was about time there was some information on the TA website!

After funding for the Museum was withdrawn by Lincolnshire County Council in 2011, the place is now run by an enthusiastic bunch of volunteers who rightly consider that a town of this size ought to have a Museum both for local residents and visitors. It is housed in the old library building, next door to the Guildhall Arts Centre and just behind the large Isaac Newton Statue in St Peter's Hill.

The two most famous past residents of the town feature prominently. Various memorabilia relating to both Margaret Thatcher and Isaac Newton are on display including Mrs Thatcher's "blue suit and handbag" (they did have her Spitting Image puppet at one time but didn't see it when I visited so not sure if they still do!). A 1721 portrait of Isaac Newton by Sir Godfrey Kneller is displayed plus a calf bound third edition of Newton's "Principia".

There is also some Grantham Canal related things, archeological and old cinema items plus items concerned with the Dambuster's operation during the war as the HQ for No 5 Bomber Command where all the planning for the raid was done in the rather eccentric Gothic Revival Mansion, St Vincent's Hall, is in Grantham. Bomber Harris also lived in a quite grand house in the town. Also there is a Montinari Wax doll as Augusta Montanari lived just round the corner from the Museum during the 19th century.

There is a small cafe and shop area in the Museum if you fancy a cup of tea or a Margaret Thatcher mug!!

The Museum is usually open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays although at the moment it is open every day as there is a "Condolence Book" for people to sign. Best of all, of course, is that it is free entry for everybody so it's easy to combine a visit with the excellent Guildhall Arts Centre. I have included some photos showing some of the exhibits
