Had 3 lovely nights here. Had our bikes and enjoyed cycling locally. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was very, very good. Small and personal so slightly quirky but all the better for this.

Stayed here in July with my parents and 7-year old daughter. Had a wonderful time, and would definitely come back. Our lodge was extremely clean, and the kitchen was very well stocked (although we didn't need to cook during our visit beyond breakfast). The lodges are ideally located near to the Lakes, and also close by to Grange Over Sands. There is a wondeful pub just down the road (Derby Arms), and we had a delicious meal there. We also ate in the hotel bar, and that was really good, although they don't serve Sunday lunch. There is also a wondeful farm shop close by (I'm sure the hotel would know the name), and I had the best ice-cream I've ever had there, so tasty.

The main thing about this hotel is that it's quiet. Really, really quiet.

By the same token, I don't feel that I really understood what I was getting the family into in staying in this place; the rooms were just as advertised; wonderful little log cabins with multiple bedrooms, kitchen, sauna, jacuzzi, and they were great.

With that said, though, this is in a remote area with little in the way of activities or things to do. The town centre has almost no restaurants or places to go, and the Woodlands is a 15-20 minute drive from the town centre. I cannot stress this enough - if you are not there with a car, do not go. There is no useful bus service, and taxis are hard to get to say the least.

The hotel itself was ok, though a major irritant on my part was the lack of internet, either in the rooms or even in the lobby. I needed to get online to deal with something important, and the front staff indicated it could not be done, nor could I even use their desk computer for a couple of minutes to resolve the issue. On Saturday night, we went to the hotel restaurant to have dinner, and were told that there was a wedding party booked and they would be unable to seat us (they did resolve this, however). I didn't feel terribly welcomed by the staff.

Overall, there were good things about this place (the lodges were fantastic, it was quiet, the place was very safe), but they were overshadowed to me by the lack of ability to get around and the lack of internet. If you want someplace super quiet and relaxing to unplug, you'll love this place. If you want something other than that, stay away.

I've just returned from a break at the Woodlands Hotel. It was an extremely comfortable hotel with pleasant, helpful staff. The food was lovely and the grounds were very peaceful. In spite of being in a secluded area, the hotel is only minutes from main access roads to the lakes or the M6. I wll definitely be back!

Just stayed at this hotel. Husband & myself with our dog, for our wedding anniversary. Beautiful and peacefully surrondings. Easy to get to lakes by car. All the staff made us all feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Everybody catered for food and drinks wise. Recommended to all my friends. Will definately be back here and sooner rather than later.

An impressive building in the lakelands style. We had a warm welcome on arrival. Our room was very comfortable, especially the bed. We had pretty views across the garden. The service and food were of an excellent standard. We thought that this hotel was the best value of all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 week UK visit. The location is great for visiting the Lake District and we only wished we had stayed longer. We look forward to our return visit.

We booked three nights, as part of our honeymoon, at one of the pine lodges situated in the grounds of the actual hotel. The lodge was one of the newer ones (Ash Lodge) which we found to be well equipped, modern, and clean in quiet surroundings. On the first night we had a meal a the hotel restaurant. The food and the service were good.

Our stay, however, was somewhat spoilt when we found the shower basin was leaky, which not only left pools of water on the bathroom floor but also soaked the main bedroom carpet next door. We reported the problem at reception before going out for the day only to find on return they had tried to rectify the sodden carpet by putting a towel over it (which remained there for the duration of our stay!) . This made the whole room feel damp and smelly. I noticed that the carpet had been water stained when we arrived so it was obvious this was not a new problem and one that obviously had been neglected.

On check out we wanted to complain about the fault but there was no one on reception (how convenient). After a long wait we were met by one of the catering staff who took our keys and returned our deposit. We communicated our complaint who said the manager would contact us.

To add insult to injury we received neither an acknowledgement of our complaint nor an apology. If you do book a lodge here please make sure to ask if they have fixed the leaking shower basin in Ash Lodge (second lodge on the left as you drive in).

We were very disappointed that Woodlands would let out a lodge to us in such in need of repair when they knew our stay was such a special occassion for us.
