Stayed here 3 nights with my wife.
The food was excellent and the staff very efficient, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is located in a beautiful area, great for walking and they are "dog friendly"
We had 3 wonderful nights stay, the highlight being New Years Eve, we were served with drinks and Haggis.
I must mention the entertainment in the ballroom , The Ian Lawrence band, they were excellent, true professionals and really made the night special.
I can not fault this hotel except that the beds were rather hard and lumpy.
We I'll most certainly return in the future and I would recommend The Cumbria Grand to Anyone!

just had the great pleasure of staying here for a new break and I'd like to say what a super fantastic time we had . excellent welcome at check in , quick and very efficient considering we arrived in a coach party of 48 people . the staff were lovely and very helpful . the food was amazing with supersized portions if wanted . it was served buffet style so you tell them if you want more or less . breakfast was the same and no dried up food all fresh as if it had been just cooked . all they did was feed us . beautiful massive buffet for lunch again as much or as little as you wanted . on the other day for lunch the choice was chicken curry , fish pie and a vegetarian choice . I really cant't wait for another visit . entertainment also excellent in afternoons and evenings . prize and cash bingo on 1st day and quiz on 2nd day , all good fun . beautiful big lounges with plenty seating for everyone . on new years eve we had a great band with 2 great singers who had the Victoria ballroom jumping from start to finish . 1st and 3rd night it was 2 different guys singing and playing guitar again music to suit every one . a massive thank you to urquart tours for having this GRAND HOTEL in your brochure and an even BIGGER thank you tho the management and staff for giving us 1 of our best new years . THANK YOU ALL FROM A VERY HAPPY GUEST :-)

Room Tip: ask for a room with the view of Morecambe Bay . odd numbered rooms

Just back from our annual twixmas break at the hotel, very good as usual, they had a big roaring log fire in the bar everynight which hasnt happened before and the entertainment was mostly back in the victorian ballroom after missing out last year for some reason. A couple of minor glitches with one of the lifts mean the stairs where the only option and for a few folk that was hard going.
And they now require paying upfront for the room when you check in and of course you have to settle up your room bill when you check out so that meant queuing twice! logic escapes me but thats their rules. Great food and plenty of it a bit pricey in the bar these days as well but where isn't?

The hotel is a lovely old rambling building, staff very friendly and welcoming. Carvery in the restaurant in the evening was very nice and buffet breakfast had everything you'd want. Bedroom was warm, nicely decorated with a refurbished bathroom and balcony with a view of the bay.
The only complaint was that - we had booked on their December special offer and upgraded to a mini suite with balcony - on arrival the receptionist wanted us to pay £60 more than we had been quoted (luckily I had the confirmation email with me). All sorted out pleasantly.. but.. on departure we were given a bill for £60 and had to go through the whole scenario again... quite embarrassing when there are other guests waiting to check out and can overhear.

Apart from that, really enjoyed the weekend.

Visited the Hotel as part of a coach party on route to Chester Xmas Market and we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the Hotel. We were able to change rooms and got a wonderful view of Morecambe Bay. Breakfast was good and the carvery dinner was first class. Only complaints - sliced very thin bread used for toast and the mattress was very lumpy. Staff were all very pleasant and we would return to a lovely part of the country.

Room Tip: Ask for a back room with a view of the Bay

Having just returned from a relaxing long weekend with my partner Well what a super place this is good old fashioned hotel yes it is old and a little rundown but they are making the best of what they have got its is a massive old Victorian building which has so much to offer
We upgraded to a sea view with a balcony room super views even though it was not the best of weather spacious room with a nice big comfy bed and a very nice modern bathroom with slippers and nice bath robes. It came with complimentary wine and chocolate's crisps and bottle's of water. It is a super old place the restaurant has been recently decorated in a true Victorian style nice and warm with great efficient staff. The food we were booked for dinner B&B the evening meals fresh hot and plenty of it. The next morning we were not disappointed with the buffet breakfast either again really nice and plenty of it.This place must have been a real site in the old Victorians day with all the people in those fantastic clothes etc. So if you want a modern hustle and bustle of a place leave well alone but there again if you want a hotel from a bye gone era with tones of charm and character we can recommend to others just remember it is not a 5Star palace but there again if it was it would have lost all that it is. The peacefulness of it to,we would have no problem returning again in the future
Only one small thing it will be super when the TV upgrading is done that is our one and only complaint very poor TV reception and very restricted programs to watch. But a fantastic long weekend for some well earned R&R
Thanks

Room Tip: if you can afford to upgrade to a sea view room its worth it with your own balcony

This was our third visit to this Hotel, and this time we paid just £180 for two nights dinner bed and breakfast for the two of us. The Hotel is a 3 star and sometimes this shows in the decor, but the views from the rooms and the excellent food and staff more than make up for it. We asked for a room on the second floor , so that we could have a very peaceful stay and were rewarded with a good sized room with a beautiful view over the golf course towards Morecambe Bay .
The TV was old fashioned, but it worked. The Kettle and teapot were spotlessly clean. The bathroom was good sized with a spotless shower curtain, and generous sized towels. My only criticism was that the grout was a little grubby around the bath and shower.
The bed had a duvet and plenty of pillows and there was a good sized dressing table (containing the hairdryer), two bed side tables , another unit for the tea and coffee tray , a round side table and 2 comfy chairs.
There were drawers in the dressing table and a built in wardrobe complete with a trouser press.
The breakfasts and dinners were excellent. Huge choice of different foods for breakfast, generous buffet style, and waiter service for hot drinks and toast.
Dinner on first night was choice of Roast Pork or fish or a vegetarian option, or you could pay extra for more options. We chose the Roast Pork , which came with apple sauce, boiled and croquette potatoes, peas , and carrots and gravy and choice of mustards. There was a good choice of starters and desserts too. Dinner on the second night was even better, we chose Roast Turkey which came with all the traditional trimmings. The starter and desserts were delicious too. Portions were generous and Coffee and tea were served afterwards in the comfy bar area.
There is a lovely graceful atmosphere to this old place and we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. There was a large coach party staying too, so somethimes the queue for the carvery was a little long, but there was more than enough food and an friendly atmosphere prevailed around the huge, dramatic dining room with magnificent views.
Over all, highly recommended for a peaceful, economical break. Lovely area to explore. We will be back.

Many thanks for your detailed and above all fantastic review of your holiday with us.As with many huge buildings such as the Cumbria Grand there is always a need for ongoing maintenance and refurbishment and this is scheduled for the areas you mention. The food and atmosphere will always make up for this and so pleased you thoroughly enjoyed your stay.See you again soon.
