Description: The Hazelmere in Grange over Sands has been owned by The Stubley family for 38 years. Dorothy, the proprietor has set the standards very high and only serves the best quality, locally sourced foods where possible. We have a beautiful Tea House where our meals are served and in the summer months we have the option of eating out on our front of house terrace. We also have a deli bakery on site where you can select delicious take away lunches for you to enjoy in the ornamental gardens across the road or you can eat in our take away courtyard. In the evenings from March up until November the Hazelmere turns into a very high class restaurant, booking is recommended as we do get very busy, exceptional meals produced by our very talented and experienced chefs. Everything is made in house and our bakers make all the produce through the night so its as fresh as can possibly be when it goes on our counter. We continue to strive to bring to our customers the best products around and take great satisfaction from this. Our excellent teams of waiting on staff and shop and back of house staff ensure the smooth running of such a large business. We look forward to welcoming you to the Hazelmere !

The food is very fresh and appetising. There is a fabulous range of specialist teas and coffees to choose from as well as wonderful desserts and cakes.

The ready meals are excellent.

The Hazelmere Café has always been our favourite café in Grange. We’ve been going there for years and have seen it run by various owners & seen it undergo several refurbishments.
The current contemporary refurbishment is very attractive.
We visited the café on Saturday 26th April at 4pm. As usual this popular café was fairly busy.
We were seated promptly by the manageress but then had to wait quite a while for someone to take our order. We ordered 2 teas & 2 toasted buns. The tea arrived promptly without the buns.
My husband then joined us & ordered a Diet Coke. We then waited a further 25 mins before the coke & buns arrived. We had to remind the manageress about our order and twice we were told the buns were “on their way”. Not sure where they were on their way to but it wasn’t to our table !
When they finally arrived after 25 mins there was no apology and by then our tea was cold & stewed. Clearly we’d been forgotten about as other customers who came in after us were served with food & drinks.
I don’t mind waiting but I don’t want hot drinks served without the accompanying food. Bring the entire order all at once.
When we’d finished we went into the adjoining bakery to buy bread only to be told that the bakery was now closed despite the fact that the baskets & shelves still held bread and it wasn’t even 5pm ! If we hadn’t been kept waiting so long in the café we would have had time to make our purchases in the bakery !
As we left the shop the bakery assistant was clearing the shelves & baskets of bread that we were quite prepared to buy ! How ridiculous !
However, having already spent £10.75 on 2 teas, 2 buns & a tiny 200ml bottle of coke and received dreadful service my husband said he didn’t feel like spending any more money there anyway !
This is a lovely, clean, attractive café but it’s not cheap. If you’re going to charge high prices then the service needs to match.
One more thing….. this café allows dogs in and when we visited there was a small dog that had jumped up on a chair & started barking. I like dogs but it’s just not hygienic to allow them in cafes where food is served. Nor do I want to hear them barking or see them on furniture that people have to sit on.
Next time we visit Grange we’ll take our custom elsewhere as there are plenty of cafes in the town.

We called for lunch and though it was a Tuesday, it was very busy. We had to wait about 10 minutes, but once seated were served promptly. Good choices on the menu, and reasonably priced. Our only reservation is that the tables are quite close together; but it means that they can accommodate more diners. It was quite hot the day we ate there, and it's not for an 'intimate' experience! They also have a excellent shop at the HPB's Merlewood complex near Grange. Whilst staying at Merlewood we tried several of their frozen meals. Very good, and great value if you are self catering.

We didnt eat here just had a couple of drinks before lunchtime. They were already quite busy at that time so we didnt stay long. This place is very similar to Bettys tearooms over in York. Everything about it ouzes style and charisma. Some excellent training has gone on behind the scenes to get to theses standards.
Next time we come we will bring family and dine also.
well done

Excellent choice of food, drink and cakes. Ideal place to stop for a coffee or tea or something more substantial. Place is busy and is worth the wait if no table immediately available. Staff friendly and very efficient. Good value. We also bought food to take away and the bread was delicious. The vanilla slices are legendary.
