We stayed at this hotel as they were hosting my friend's wedding. It has a decent location, next to the Tyne. Its staff were nice and the reception, bar and function/breakfast room were fine, although a tiny bit dated.
Our room was a good size with two three-quarter beds and a view over the river; however, again, it was slightly dated. The beds were too big for one, but a bit snug for two! The bathroom was basic but adequate.
The wedding reception was nice, with good food and a decent bar. There is also a terrace overlooking the river. The breakfast had a wide selection and was very tasty.
My main reason for the three stars is that, while the room was superficially clean, there was a lot of dust on the plug sockets, skirting boards, under the desk etc. indicating that it was not regularly thoroughly cleaned. This is a pet peeve of mine and did spoil my impression of the place.
However, If you're looking for a basic hotel in the area, this would suit you.
