We stayed at this hotel from 4th to 7th August in Executive rooms.

The rooms were large, well appointed and maintained and the bathrooms were very spacious with large bathtubs, ideal for soaking.

The public areas were well appointed and maintained and the leisure areas were excellent with the large gym being provided with all the equipment needed for a very comprehensive workout. Parking, adjacent to the hotel, was plentiful and at no additional cost.

All the members of staff we encountered were very pleasant and professional in their approach (other than one young lady in the bar who was a little lazy!) and willing to please, well done to them.

The bills for both of our rooms had minor errors which were corrected without question upon checking out.

The hotel is ideally located as a base for touring around the surrounding areas, as we were doing, and is literally across the road and just a few minutes walk from the Metro Centre.

Our only gripe is with the bar and restaurant. The evening menu's were uninspiring. I think this was reflected in the fact that on the three nights we stayed there, the restaurant appeared to be virtually empty whenever we walked past. We travel quite extensively and have experienced restaurants at every level but we consider the cost of the dishes here were excessive, for example fish and chips £16; come on, this is only a bar in a hotel!! We did however eat here on our first night (burger and fries) and the food was tasty and well presented as were most dishes we saw being delivered to other tables.

In conclusion, shame about the food prices but other than that this is a good hotel which we would return to without hesitation.

We had our wedding here recently. This may be a hotel chain which sometimes deters people but I can thoroughly recommend this hotel. Our wedding coordinator, Barbara was amazing from day 1, helpful and understanding. On the day, Hayley looked after us from arrival through to the very end of our evening reception. The chef brought our desserts which has been personalised for us - a small but beautiful touch to the day. Many of our family and friends stayed (some even arriving days before) and all remarks were of nothing but praise for the hotel. Reception, bar and restaurant staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean and well maintained. We had a relaxed, amazing day made possible by the genuine understanding staff who clearly puts their guests first!

Just back from an overnight stay at Marriott metro centre Gateshead. We had stayed in York (holiday inn) most of the week and wanted astop over before returning home and some shopping thrown in. We felt this was a good choice as it was right on sight. We were given a family room but upon entering the room stunk of urine, and I can only imagine that this room is kept for families with young children who are allowed to run about without a nappy. the bathroom stunk even stronger than the bedroom floor. We spoke to the lady at reception but were informed that we had the last family room as the hotel was very busy. We decided to go out for the evening to avoid the smell, however on return the smell was no better even with the windows open.
The beds were a nightmare also, they had mattress toppers on which were all sunken and very uncomfortable.
We survived the night and had breakfast the next morning before leaving, this again was ok but not great. We had spent 5 nights in a travel inn in York and although the hotel was basic it was clean and staff were very very friendly. Although the room was very bad there were however nice staff on reception in the morning.
I thought as we had only been able to book a holiday inn for our trip to York we would book a bit better for Newcastle, but this proved to not be the case and the holiday inn was definitely the better choice.
I would definitely think twice before booking a Marriott hotel again.

What a friendly place, all the staff were very helpful, room was one of the cleanest and laid out we have stayed in at the price paid, the bathroom had all the amenities we needed and was replenished daily with nothing missing, room soundproofing was excellent complete with air con. Our room 205 was large with a 3 Seater sofa + a chair, a very large bed and everything else you would need. Breakfast was self service plenty of everything cooked or cold, again with friendly staff. Would not hesitate staying there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 205 just far enough from the lift , we did not notice any noise from any other roo...

Back for a second time at this Hotel and this time it did not disappoint we arrived early on the Saturday around 1.00pm the front desk staff were very accommodating and we were in our room very quickly although the Hotel was completely full we had no hold ups what so ever, and parking is free.

Our room 317 was large spacious and clean not the most modern design but very classy and comfortable with desk chair and settee it had lots of seating. The bed turned out to be extremely comfortable and we slept very well all night even with a large wedding going on in the main function room downstairs we never heard a sound all night brilliant.
The bathroom was large with a large bath with shower overhead and we had a lovely soak in this on the Sunday morning before breakfast.

Breakfast was included in the package and did not disappoint fruit juice, cereals, cold cuts and off course the full English which was excellent as much as you can eat and all hot and very tasty topped of with toast and Danish pastries if you were still hungry plus tea and coffee on demand just the start you want on a weekend.

This Hotel is a great place to visit if you want to shop at the Metro Centre it is literally five minutes walk away and Ikea three minutes all can be seen from your room, but if you want to into the Toon and explore there’s a bus stop outside the Hotel and the Metro system runs from the shopping centre if you don’t wish to drive. Newcastle is very lively with great shopping, bars restaurants, night clubs music venues and clubs for the younger at heart the Quayside is especially interesting with the Sage and we Baltic overlooking the Blinking eye bridge we love it and the Geordies are so friendly.

We had a great night here and although we did not use the gym or pool area this time we will next time we return, the staff were friendly and helpful at all times and we left chilled and relaxed on the Sunday night after a long days shopping in Ikea and the Metro Centre we may even visit a few historic sites next time PBV.

Room Tip: Try to get there early as there is so much to do and see in the area time just fly's by brillian...

Gateshead is the town directly across the river from Newcastle. You can walk there on any of several foot bridges, and exciting places like the BALTIC art center and the Sage entertainment venue are right there. It is a part of Newcastle.

But Gateshead MetroCentre is not in THAT part of Gateshead, and MetroCentre has nothing to do with the excellent Newcastle mass transit Metro system. No, Gateshead MetroCenter is the name of the largest shopping mall in England, some say in Europe, but it is also a 15-minute taxi or bus ride from what one would consider Newcastle. Thus, although you can walk all over Newcastle and the tourist part of Gateshead, you cannot walk to this hotel.

The hotel is a bit on the down side for a Marriott. Breakfast is more limited than in most Marriott hotels. There is no executive suite, nor do they offer compensating amenities to elite travelers. Half of the rooms face the business center wing, which was booked with two loud, late-night parties when we were there. There is no computer for guest use. Dinner service on the one night we ate in the hotel was inexplicably slow.

On the plus side, the fitness center was well-equipped and not crowded. The staff were kind and helpful. And the rooms are clean and well-appointed.

In summary, this hotel is acceptable, but it does not live up to the general Marriott standards in terms of convenient location or quality.

Room Tip: Ask for the side not facing the conference room suite.

Located well for the metro but a little out of town. Looks dated from the outside and landscaped by car parks.

However once inside it's really nice. Room had two huge beds good heating/aircon new TV quality fittings poor quality biscuits though :-/

Breakfast staff amazing some of the best I've experienced

Good stay for work
