Wonderful cottage break

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Aug 2015
I've just returned from a fabulous short break at Millers Barn, Ridings Farm. The cottage was clean, well decorated and had everything we needed - including for my 17 month old niece (stair gates/high chairs etc.). Louise and Teresa were so accommodating and even helped my Husband sneak in some birthday flowers, a balloon and some food before I arrived. We were very lucky with the weather and there are some amazing views around the farm. We would definitely go back again and are very grateful for everything the owners did to make our stay so relaxing.

I had booked accommodation for 7 and we stayed in Granary barn and Bowes cottage last week these two cottages are interlinked by lockable internal doors so it was fabulous that we could go between the properties without having to go outside. The cottages were well thought out and had everything that you could require for your stay, a real home from home. We were all very impressed with the cottages and their location which was perfect for our stay. Louise and Angus were great hosts and were very willing to give advice and answer my many questions as I was planning a birthday celebration for my mum. Louise had made a delicious birthday cake and left a card for my mum in the cottage for when we arrived which was a lovely surprise for her.
We visited Beamish with the discount vouchers provided by Louise and had a lovely day there.
The cottages were in a beautiful part of the world and it was so nice to just step outside and feel peaceful we saw lots of wild birds around the properties the information folder in the cottage was useful and informative.
I will be recommending these cottages to all my friends who want to stay in this part of the world

Room tip: Ask the owners your questions as they are very knowledgeable and will help if they can.

We were delighted to be able to spend 4 days after Easter Sunday back at Granary Barn at Riding Farm. Every time we have been here, the weather has been fantastic - so I can't comment on what it's like otherwise. Again, we found it to be home from home with everything that we needed although the washing machine was broken throughout our stay. (Angus offered to wash the clothes for us, but our daughter lives fairly near so that was not necessary.)

Although situated down a quiet country lane, a short drive takes you to shop in Team Valley or onto the A1.

In terms of value, we could have stayed at a number of cottages much cheaper for the 4 nights (£124 per night) but I guess that you get what you pay for.

We will probably stay here again the next time we are in the area.

Room tip: One bedroom had twin beds and an en-suite bath and the other a double bed and a shower. If you want things re-arranged, Angus will make the double bed into twins on request.

Just back from a mid-week break in Bowes Barn. Found this on their very good website, and it lived up to the description. We arrived early evening, and, although their was no-one about, one of the other guests told us where to find the key. We had been sent a map and plan of where the Barns all where, so no trouble getting in. Meal we had ordered was all ready in the cottage (would really recommend the honey-glazed ham with salad and pots - lasted us 2 meals and sandwiches!) Angus called later that evening to welcome us with a bottle of wine. The cottage was ideal for us as a comfortable base very near to Beamish (our main destination) and the 25% off voucher was a bonus. Oh and the breakfasts in the farmhouse were very good with a good choice.
We had such a lovely time we would certainly stay again - say no more!

I booked here as my mum was keen to visit Beamish which is not far away at all. 10 minutes by car and Louise gave us a 25% discount voucher which was appreciated. We were booked into the main house for B+B and when we arrived we were upgraded to a cottage which was fab! It was really comfortable and had everything including lovely toiletries, dressing gowns and fluffy towels. The beds were so comfy and the cottage was spotless. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine. The breakfast was delicious and the Durham sausages went down well! We stayed two nights but really didn't want to leave on the Sunday! We were made to feel most welcome and we hope to return again.
Many thanks Louise and Angus for a lovely weekend!
